elgenper Posted February 18, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 18, 2014 Anyone have a high miler MM to show how it wears with age ? It won't make a blind bit of difference to my desire but curious all the same as my m9-P starts to show brassing My 4 yo black M9 (daily used) is just beginning to brass beautifully. My MM is less than 2 months old, and still mint. But… The M9 is black paint, while the MM is black chrome, which makes a world of difference. I own an old Leicaflex SL in black chrome that has seen a LOT of use; a real beater. But there is not a trace of brassing anywhere on it, just a bit more ´shininess´ along the edges. So, don´t wait for brassing on the MM. It won´t happen anytime soon….
MarkP Posted February 18, 2014 Share #3 Posted February 18, 2014 Very minimal and lovely silvering along some of the edges.
earleygallery Posted February 18, 2014 Share #4 Posted February 18, 2014 Look at images of used black M6's on ebay for some idea.
colint544 Posted February 18, 2014 Share #5 Posted February 18, 2014 I've had my MM since August 2012. I don't go anywhere without it, and it gets used almost every day (I'm on the Blipfoto site, where you post a picture per day, and I ususally use the MM - Colin Templeton on Blipfoto :: On The Phone :: 17 February 2014). The black chrome finish fiercely resists any brassing, but it does show marks and scratches. And the white lettering on the back is rubbish - it was flaking off within the first month. Mind you, I used to have an M9-P, and it was exactly the same. Having said that, my MM seems better put together than the old M9-P. The leatherette on the M9-P was peeling in two separate places before it was a year old, but the covering on the MM is still firmly in place. The sapphire screen remains completely scratch-free. I absolutely love the MM. The images it churns out are what it's all about. Best camera I've ever owned, by a mile, and I've owned a lot of cameras over the years. Here are a couple of iPhone snaps of my MM. Note that the baseplate has brassing, but it's the old one from the M9-P. The MM one is safe in the box. The Thumbs-Up is the same age as the MM, so that gives you an idea of how resistant the camera really is to brassing, Best wishes all, Colin Welcome, dear visitor! tobey bilek Posted March 15, 2014 Share #6 Posted March 15, 2014 Paint on a $7000 camera is why I never bought an M9. Then the M9P came along and I snapped the baby up. If paint pealed off your Rolls Royce, you would be hopping mad. Why do you think it is beautiful on a camera?
Chuck Albertson Posted March 16, 2014 Share #7 Posted March 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't hold your breath. I've had a couple of M6's with the black chrome finish since the early 90's that have been heavily used, and don't look it.
