ananda Posted June 12, 2013 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Had my new M for about three days. Charged battery to full initially, but 24 hrs later with camera in standby mode (shuts off in 2 minutes if not used), battery drained completely. So I recharged battery, and over the past 24 hrs took about 15 shots. Part of the time shut off completely, part of time in the 2 min shut off mode. Battery reading currently at 85 percent. Somehow, so far, this does not seem right? Any comment appreciated. Maybe I have a bad batery or something is wrong with camera?
Advertisement Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Hi ananda, Take a look here Battery Problem with New M???. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Hookeye Posted June 12, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 12, 2013 Congratulations with your new M A few of us have reported similar experiences. Nobody knows exactly what is going on. Some think it has something to do with the SD card, others believe it has something to do with the break in of the new batteries. Others again believe it may be a firmware issue. Personally, I choose to switch the camera to OFF rather than leaving it in the standby mode. Have not seen the problem since then. Here is a past thread on the subject: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/279361-m-240-battery-drain.html
ananda Posted June 12, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted June 12, 2013 Thanks for the link to the other thread. Seems like I'm not alone on this issue. Would be nice to hear what Leica has to say.
tobey bilek Posted June 12, 2013 Share #4 Posted June 12, 2013 I try to break in a new battery and use the off switch.
Yarosuav Posted June 12, 2013 Share #5 Posted June 12, 2013 I've had the same problem (created another thread about it). It's not a battery problem, the issue seems to be that the camera actually doesn't go into standby mode as it should, but stays turned on draining the battery... lct Posted June 12, 2013 Share #6 Posted June 12, 2013 Did you leave an EVF in the hotshoe?

lct Posted June 12, 2013 Share #8 Posted June 12, 2013 I would reset the camera (you will lose your user profiles though), replace the SD card and see what happens. FWIW.
mjh Posted June 13, 2013 Share #9 Posted June 13, 2013 When it happened to me, the camera was in exactly the same configuration and using the exact same card as before (and afterwards). I doubt it has anything to do with cards, the EVF etc..
algrove Posted June 13, 2013 Share #10 Posted June 13, 2013 One of my batteries (the original one) has had similar issues and my dealer traded it for a new one. Let's hope this one performs better.

My camera is set to auto sleep at 10 minutes, but I believe the Eye-Fi card will still broadcast and attempt to join networks after the 10 minutes and continue to draw power
ananda Posted June 13, 2013 Author Share #12 Posted June 13, 2013 I have spoken to Dave Elwell at Leica NJ about this battery drain matter and also sent him relevant threads from the forum and he claims he is going to contact Leica in Germany and try to come up with an answer or a solution. I will remind him in a couple weeks if I have not heard back from him.
