Advertisement Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Hi digitalfx, Take a look here Mini M? [MERGED] AKA X-Vario. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
StephenPatterson Posted May 23, 2013 Share #2 Posted May 23, 2013 Positioned between the M and the X2, so we're probably not talking about the replacement for the V-Lux
Wolfgang Chuck Posted May 23, 2013 Share #3 Posted May 23, 2013 This just popped up on Facebook and I thought it was a joke!
JeTexas Posted May 23, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 23, 2013 I'm going to guess it's a fixed lens full frame with live view only similar to the Sony RX-1.
StephenPatterson Posted May 23, 2013 Share #5 Posted May 23, 2013 Looks like it's time to say farewell to the M-E, and perhaps CCD M mount Leica bodies.
theboch Posted May 23, 2013 Share #6 Posted May 23, 2013 Maybe a M 240 without an optical viewfinder and rangefinder coupling with only Live View and the EVF?! Might be cheaper to manufacture...
iedei Posted May 23, 2013 Share #7 Posted May 23, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) very excited to see what it is. the resurrection of the CL it seems! i hope it's more basic and nothing like the bloated M240.
StephenPatterson Posted May 23, 2013 Share #8 Posted May 23, 2013 I'm going to guess it's a fixed lens full frame with live view only similar to the Sony RX-1. If it had a fixed lens I believe Leica would have called it an X something. I believe it will be an M with no rangefinder. Same sensor. Probably no built in eye level viewfinder, but with the optional EVF (or rear LCD) for framing.
JeTexas Posted May 23, 2013 Share #9 Posted May 23, 2013 I hear you Stephen, but on their facebook graphic they refer to the X2 as the Micro M and the D-Lux 6 as the Nano M. I think everything may end up branded as an M by next year.
nggalai Posted May 23, 2013 Share #10 Posted May 23, 2013 … but as the “M” in “Leica M” stands for “Messsucher” (Rangefinder), removing the rangefinder would be sort of … well. Weird? Hrm.
tonycdpp Posted May 23, 2013 Share #11 Posted May 23, 2013 Good move by Leica. Sony RX-1 and Fuji's are hot on their heels. Solid metal construction alone cannot justify the price differences if optical differences are negligible.
Stealth3kpl Posted May 23, 2013 Share #12 Posted May 23, 2013 I wonder when it's due for release............not that that's anything to go by Pete
iedei Posted May 23, 2013 Share #13 Posted May 23, 2013 here's what i found on Overgaard's site based on Stefan Daniel's comments about this camera in 2010...apparently it's been in the works for a LONG time. "A Leica mini-M seem to be under development and will - according to Stefan Daniel at a speech back in September 2010- not be ready for Photokina 2012... So we are talking later than that. But what we do know is that they are aiming at a mirrorles camera (the Leica M has always been mirrorless, but we're probably talking CMOS sensors that will enabe live view and thus focus confirmation). This camerea will also contain the R-solution which means that it will be able to take R lenses and offer focus confirmation for these."
sblitz Posted May 23, 2013 Share #14 Posted May 23, 2013 mini in size or functions? my guess is an rx-
Stealth3kpl Posted May 23, 2013 Share #15 Posted May 23, 2013 mini in size or functions? my guess is an rx-1 It doesn't have the strap lugs Pete
StephenPatterson Posted May 23, 2013 Share #16 Posted May 23, 2013 … but as the “M” in “Leica M” stands for “Messsucher” (Rangefinder), removing the rangefinder would be sort of … well. Weird? Hrm. Leica has already considered this problem... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/277625-leica-m-tagline.html#post2357354
StephenPatterson Posted May 23, 2013 Share #17 Posted May 23, 2013 mini in size or functions? my guess is an rx-1 My guess is M mount...Leica needs to sell a lot more lenses with the new factory (and increased capacity) coming online soon.
1JB Posted May 23, 2013 Share #18 Posted May 23, 2013 The M with no rangefinder coupled with manual focus M lenses would be a dud imo. I would expect an autofocus fixed lens.
digitalfx Posted May 23, 2013 Author Share #19 Posted May 23, 2013 Think about the possibilities for Leica if it is indeed a "Mini" M that accepts M lenses at a lower cost than current M bodies...sales of M lenses could potentially double overnight.
rramesh Posted May 23, 2013 Share #20 Posted May 23, 2013 I think it will be an interchangeable M mount crop-sensor camera without the rangefinder mechanism.
