LotharZhou Posted April 27, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) My 8 months old M9P is showing a red pixel in the center of almost every under exposed photos, not obvious unless heavily under exposed at all. Interestingly I try to shot ISO 160 to 1250 with the lens cap on, can't see that pixel at all. I have contact Mayfair and hesitating to send to Leica for the fix, a few advice will be appreciated indeed, should I send to Solms or not? Welcome, dear visitor! TomB_tx Posted April 27, 2013 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2013 I have a similar red pixel on my M9 that shows up on the LCD when I zoom in. However, I always use LR4 to import and convert images, and it disappears in LR, even before exporting to jpg. I assume LR4 eliminates such hot pixels, so I chose not to worry about it. k-hawinkler Posted April 27, 2013 Share #3 Posted April 27, 2013 With the lens cap on the dead pixel gets subtracted out in the second part of the exposure step. I don't worry about isolated dead pixels as they easily can be corrected in post. If it bothered you Leica can map it out for you.
LotharZhou Posted April 27, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted April 27, 2013 Thanks a lot, it's annoying me because it's in the dead center of the frame. And it appears and disappears unpredictable. LotharZhou Posted April 27, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted April 27, 2013 Thanks, it could be fixed easily, my only concern is that the dead pixel numbers might increase over the time? As my camera is still under warranty. k-hawinkler Posted April 27, 2013 Share #6 Posted April 27, 2013 They will increase over time - as with any other camera. It's not really specific to your camera. As the camera is still under warranty have it mapped out.

You may want to see what my experience was: Leica M-E Dead Pixel issue Remember if you plan on shooting JPG out of camera that pixel error will be retained in the in camera JPG. LR would quickly fix the dead pixel in the DNG files as they were imported but the vertical column issue was a serious cause of alarm for me. The US Leica repair facility in NJ repaired the CCD by replacing it and the sensor board along with a rangefinder adjustment.
