Wow, finally some photos to peruse and to be honest they do not look too bad either. Would like to know if these are shot as jpegs or raw and then converted. Would have been nice to see some black and white too. The "Leica look" seems to be there but gonna need to see a lot more photos before a decision is made. Much better than the Normandy cliff shots!!

Well "official" in the sense that Leica have endorsed these photos to put on their blog.

as described by Leica on their official FB page:

he blog will follow Jean Gaumy as he revisits Kyrgyzstan on a photographic journey with the new Leica M [type 240]. In episode 1, he spends a day in Bishkek, the capital

BACK TO KYRGYZSTAN: A Photographic Journey With Jean Gaumy

The metadata says taken with an M9. But there is no camera number nor an image number as far as I can see.

Does it actually say, anywhere, that this is anything other than just another in a series of Leica Blogs? Does it say anywhere that these are to be read as "Official M" shots?

I can't see anything to that affect - however, I cannot play the sound where I am now, so there may be something on th evideo that I am missing.

andy, i quoted the line that Leica gave on their FB page when they posted this link. They state it is the M240.

"The blog will follow Jean Gaumy as he revisits Kyrgyzstan on a photographic journey with the new Leica M. In episode 1, he spends a day in Bishkek, the capital"

From the Leica Camera Facebook page, with the link to the blog.

it IS interesting the the Leica blog changed that sentence. If you see my original post, i cut and pasted it and now am noticing that the 'Typ 240' part is gone from their FB! hmmmm

The 3rd (crowd in stand) and 4th (dancers in blue on stage) images appear to be from the M240, while the rest show M9. Maybe it's a test to see if we are paying attention.

Maybe it's just supposed to show the new Ms pictures blend in quite well with the M9 ones.

BTW number 8 (the donkey-zebra) is new M as well, as are all the pictures from the "brides" below.

Cheers, I think I was distracted trying to figure out what was supposed to be in focus on that one...

I was more distracted by that poor animal ;)

All in all I would say the colors of the new M look like the ones I am used from my M9. ISO 800 looks pretty clear - if one can tell from a single JEPG-shot. Also the highlights seem to hold pretty well. Not overwhelming, but very promising.

Well, if they are a mixed bag of M9 and M240, and we can only tell through careful checking of the exif data. Then that's a good thing surely. Interesting that Erik thinks they look Canon CMOS like if some are in fact Leica CCD in reality.

There's a science to blind selection etc isn't there. Like the coke tests etc. You'll get different results completely if people think they know already what it is. Confirmation bias etc. Would be good to know if we can trust the exif.

They probably didn't realize he was mixing M9 and M240 images when the original post was made on the Leica FB page.

I asked about the M9 and M240 EXIF almost immediately after the blog went live but my question has yet to appear.

The position of the dust and hairs on the sensor shows that there are two different camera bodies going on here. Maybe a bit of smoke and mirrors by Leica to "trick" you into critiquing the M9 files? ;)

Or "just" an oversight...
