Where do you take your M9?

For the most part, I take mine with me to the majority of my daily and monthly travels. However, I do feel a bit uneasy having +10K worth of camera and glass on me in certain locations, especially in Brooklyn.

Do you take your M9/M8 where ever you go, or choose to carry it selectively?

Is there a place where you would not take your M9 and why?

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

Everywhere as people just don't seem to realise what it is. I often walk around south London with 2 M9's plus lenses but I do use a well beaten up Billingham bag and try to dress appropriately. It is what you look like and how you behave that will draw the attention

I take mine everywhere.

Not taking it for fear of having it stolen seems wrong to me: that way, you allow the opportunity for all those interesting shots to be stolen from you before you start.

Its as though the camera is worth more to you than the photos its made to take.

On the other hand, if somewhere scares you that much, its probably best not to go there, camera or no camera. I'm not as brave as this might make me sound. I just don't place that high a value on the camera compared with the photos I want.

Everywhere I go on a business travel or holidays.

So in a little bit less than one and a half years it has been to Kuwait, the UAE, a couple of times to India, to Vietnam, Korea and for one day to Bangkok and of course to Norther Italy on vacation. At home in Luxembourg I also take some photographs.

For new year's eve it will also go to London.

In fact I'll stay close to Shepherd's bush with my children and wife.

Does anyone have a recommendation where to go for dinner on the 31st of January in the area of Embankment? My family wants to see the fireworks.

Thanks in advance,

Joerg

And by the way: insurance is for sissies... just kidding.

i haven't travelled with the m-e yet, just bought it. but i have travelled a lot with the m6, which to almost everybody's eye, is the same. i've never not taken the camera because of feeling unsafe. the only reason i've not taken it (for that day) is because i feel like shooting with a different camera and didn't want to bring 2 cameras. to keep things lighter.

i had a photo taken of me when i had the m6 by my side. it's such a small camera that you barely notice it. it looks like a pouch or something. it doesn't stand out.

I can not recall a story from the forums of someone being mugged for their camera. Certainly there have been sad stories of people having their camera stolen from their home or car and the occasional opportunistic theft usually in the vicinity of popular tourists attractions.

I think the average mugger is far more interested in your cash, cards and phone.

There are not too many places where I live I would not take my M9 of MM. I do not take them to work because I am in an office all day and I would not leave them locked up in my vehicle. There are late at night places you would not venture out in Austin but I would not be there in the first place.

Everywhere . . . . well, not always to the lavatory (but often). I have a small, grubby, lovely, bashed up Fogg bag that goes in the car, sits by my table at restaurants, my desk at the office, my shoulder when walking the dog . . and on the kitchen table whilst I'm typing this.

What's the point of an M9 if it isn't at hand?

. . . and yes, I've even carried it in South London

Everywhere along with M4. As for insurance in NYC get apartment insurance. State Farm. Allstate all have it and you should too. And you can tack on a personal articles addition and send them receipts and they will insure. My camera and lenses are all insured like that. Too expensive to risk otherwise.

Thank you! Regarding the apartment insurance, that is a really great idea!
