Hi

I wrote a small piece looking at ISO's on the Monochrom from 800-3200 along with some 100% crops for anyone that's interested, you can find it here - Scary Faces……pushing the Monochrom further.

This is a follow up to my previous piece - Monochrom – Scarily Good….

Here are a couple of sample shots -

Another set of terrific images, Jason. I am glad someone as capable as you has this formidable tool...

Thanks Jeff

I have to say these are probably not the kind of shots I had in mind when I ordered the MM but and it has to be said, getting opportunities to photograph unusual subject matter in challenging light has increased my rate of learning with this camera significantly.

In the new year I have some portraits lined up which I hope will be much more mainstream and at the same time will give me the opportunity to play around with some other lenses on the MM.

Cheers, Jason.

wow..!! scarily scary, especially the one with a hole in her head & bunches. great images & thanks for taking the time to put it together & showing us here:)

Thanks,

These are my first JPEG's from the MM, have to say I'm very pleased with them, I will be doing some comparison to M9 B&W JPEG's shortly.

Cheers

Nice shots, but I really expected in this thread something like pushed ISO 10.000 shots, as the title suggested ;-)

The Mono is indeed very clean @ ISO800 − 3200 to begin with.

Even downsizing the shots without noise reduction and careful exposure would net very clean looking shots on the forum.

A similar (but slightly less dramatic effect than downsampling) has printing.

Additionally, the Lr 4 noise reduction tools are first rate.

Good technique you used here.

Ha, I haven'f found a situation where I've needed to push it any higher yet.....but I take your point :)

The 100% crops within the full post show the quality of the files, and yes anything can look clean at this size.

No noise reduction applied though as you say LR4 noise reduction is second to none.

Thanks
