Advertisement Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Hi Guest gillavi, Take a look here Leica official responds to the card failures. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted August 2, 2011 Share #2 Posted August 2, 2011 They have reponded to the Forum here too and will be asking for assistance in fixing it.
k-hawinkler Posted August 2, 2011 Share #3 Posted August 2, 2011 WOW! That had impact. The difference with this forum is, that the forum is sort of sheltered or semi-hidden on the Internet. Why? Well one has to register first and then login in order to automatically see posted pictures or enjoy all the nice features. Of course, anybody can do this. No excuse not to. Some of my friends seem to have trouble with this or don't want to bother. Please, note, I am not complaining, just describing what I was told by folks on the outside of the forum. K-H.
scrubs Posted August 2, 2011 Share #4 Posted August 2, 2011 Leica admits the problem and currently looking for a solution: In bottom of the post. Leica M9 SanDisk Failure Thanks. Good to know they are working on it - even if they have no idea what is causing it. It's a shame you had to go to such lengths, letting the cat of the bag with a public campaign for them to finally make a public statement. I can see how they would be reluctant to do so when they have no idea what the cause is, but believe it was extremely important for them to do so, either way, forced or not and am Thankful they did. I hope we don't all have to purchase S2's for fault free functioning

Agreed and would suspect the majority of members here are already M9 owners, not so many potential customers when compared with Facebook the blog and other mediums used to advertise the fault. andybarton Posted August 2, 2011 Share #7 Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) The majority of the members of the forum are NOT M9 owners. There are more members than there are M9s, by a long way. All of the text and information on the forum is available to people who haven't registered. Only the photos and Barnack's Bar are hidden from non-registrants. This is far from "hidden" and Leica do read the forum regularly. Very senior people in Leica are members. Leica have already made a statement here, through Andreas, that they are working on the problem and will be asking for member feedback shortly. pico Posted August 2, 2011 Share #8 Posted August 2, 2011 This is good news from Leica. At times I'd like to see the source code if it were assembler or machine code, (or both) although that might reveal proprietary information regarding the M9 itself. I'd be embarrassed to be the original programmer. My worst fear is that there is a chip with an architecture that is simply erratic or mal-designed. Well, I'm tipping a virtual glass to Leica for its effort and candor.

I am talking about users within the M9 forum section. To be aware of the problem, you would have to be within the M9 section of the thread which would conclude that you either own an M9 or perhaps an interest in purchasing one maybe..But those figures are small in comparison - in terms of potential customers when compared outside of this site, using the means the OP did, such as social networking.

BTW, where can one find out the approximate number of members? Isn't it also true that one has to be logged in to enjoy all the other convenient features? Some of those, of course, are ID specific and couldn't be provided otherwise. Again, I was not and am not complaining in the least. Thanks, K-H. andybarton Posted August 2, 2011 Share #14 Posted August 2, 2011 BTW, where can one find out the approximate number of members? At the bottom of the front page If you log out, you will see what a non-registered person sees.
andybarton Posted August 2, 2011 Share #15 Posted August 2, 2011 Wider than FaceBook? I think not Obviously not. Who goes on Facebook to search for SD card failures on Leica M9s? Google, maybe. The OP's blog post isn't Facebook.
pop Posted August 2, 2011 Share #16 Posted August 2, 2011 to be within the M9 section of the thread which would conclude that you either own an M9 or perhapsan interest in purchasing one maybe.. FWIW, I don't own an M9 and do not intend to buy one anytime soon. I read (and occasionally contribute to) the M9 forum because most issues which affect the M9 also affect the M8, which in turn I do own. The two aren't very different, yet.
scrubs Posted August 2, 2011 Share #17 Posted August 2, 2011 Obviously not. Who goes on Facebook to search for SD card failures on Leica M9s? Google, maybe. The OP's blog post isn't Facebook. It is if you read Leica's response to him. I would not underestimate the power those social networking sites hold. No one went on twitter to search for "super injuction" on a whim. Pico, I share your concern but sincerely hope it's just firmware bugs that can get fixed relatively speaking at fairly low cost compared to your worst case scenario. Best, K-H.
