Default New M9 firmway to come in a few days?

As mentioned in another thread, I received this mail from Leica Customer Service today:

Dear Mr. Thomson,
Thanks for your mail.
I´m sorry for the late answer, I didn´t know that my colleagues didn´t answer directly to you.
It is a fault of the compatibility of the sd-card sandisk 4gb sdhc, a fault in writing to the card.
Our quality management could follow up the fault and they told me it will be tired out with the next firmware.
You will find it for download from our homepage in a few days.
Kind regards

Customer Service

Have anyone heard of a new firmwareon the way???

I have reliably been informed in next couple of days and it will solve card reading problems.

Sorry if I broke the rules.
In this case I did not realize it was "other persons" numbers or mail addresses as it was the official numbers and address to Leicas customer service.
I believe these are well known to all Leica users and forum members?

Phone numbers and email addresses posted on web pages can be automatically picked out from the text and added to spam email lists. Even if the phone numbers or email addresses seem to be on other pages (they may be pictures rather than text and thus not easily searchable, it's a good idea to keep them off additional pages.

Sorry, didn't know that.

If Leica choose to publicise them on their website in a spam-searchable format, that's up to them, but they should not be placed here like that.

I am sure you do everything you can to protect your own email addresses from spam, and do not place your own office telephone number on the web for all to see.

Thanks

SDXC in the next FW or does that require different hardware inside the camera? I see that new speed standards were issued for both SDHC and SDXC cards on Wednesday, with transfer speeds of up to 104mbps. I guess that the M9 cannot take advantage of this transfer speed anyway but the S2 might.

As far as I know there is no way to achieve SDXC-compatibility with a firmware update; you need new hardware.

I wonder what else might be lurking in there. I think I saw someone indicate that it might have some corrections in AWB. That would be nice.

Isn't that what was said about SDHC compatibility on the M8? I am completely ignorant on the technology, so maybe SDXC is different. Is it?

While an increase in speed would likely require hardware, recognizing new size/capacity limits or file / directory structure could be done in firmware.

No, actually not. In fact when SDHC was introduced, many camera vendors issued firmware updates to render some their more recent models SDHC compatible. It took Leica a bit longer and it wasn’t clear at first whether they would succeed, but that they would try to do their best.

When SDXC was introduced, the general message was that the new specification would require new hardware. Since then there have been a couple of cameras forthcoming supporting SDXC natively, but no firmware updates.

Not that it matters, really. The M9 doesn’t even utilize the theoretical throughput limits of the SDHC standard and 32 GB per card should not be too limiting either. On the other hand, the exFAT file system specified by the SDXC standard isn’t yet supported by many OS in widespread use and as long as it isn’t supported by Mac OS X, I for one don’t care about SDXC.

For me, as long as they sort out the SDHC card compatibility, I'm fine. On the AWB, I'm sure they will improve the M9, since my X1 gave a more accurate and consistent AWB than the M9. Even for the same shot, my M9 does not give a consistent AWB

Regards.

I think that like many digital cameras, greens are the M9's weakest area. It may be something inherent in the Bayer structure that greens seem to be so difficult or it may be the way that human eyes perceive greens. It seems to be that the M9 really struggles to get darker greens correct with the end result being often too dark or have a bluish tint. I also find it quite difficult to correct this in software, even when I am correcting in channels, as once the green is correct, it throws the other colours off. Here is an uncorrected example taken on the Coupe des Alpes rally for classic rally cars last week. The car in the middle is actually painted in Jaguar british racing green but has come out nearly black. The paler bright green of the alpine meadow is about as I remember it.

Not to worry Andy. As far as I know no-one has worked out how to spam a latitude and longitude
On the other hand look out for GPS guided posts unhappy with any modding .

In fact no, all telephone numbers and e-mail adressses of university employees in NL are publically available. I find this tremendously useful and is very different from business websites that are usually very uninformative esp. if you are looking for a specific person. The amount of spam is very limited maybe 1-2 messages per day. Similarly my gmail address is not difficult to find, via flickr, linkedin etc., and this is virtually free from spam as well.

Keeping information secret is nearly impossible - unless you decide to live as a hermit.
