carlantapp Posted September 18, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just did something I tell "all" my students not to do...reformatted my card in the camera (M8.2) before I downloaded the files. So I am using Lexar cards, have the Rescue 3 software. Ran the rescue software on the card...images were found...would I like to recover and save them...yes...when I go to save them...cannot be saved. The file format comes up with a ?? Have been through all the menus, most camera file formats come up..but DNG does not? Anyone experienced this? Did a search for recovery software for DNG...but no great help there..Thanks very much for your help. Carlan
Advertisement Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Hi carlantapp, Take a look here Recovering deleted M8.2 DNG files. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dpattinson Posted September 18, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2009 I don't know about Rescue software, but you could try R-Studio which is a general purpose file recovery tool. I've used it to pull files off a corrupted thumb-drive and off SD cards before. You can test it in demo mode to see if it can find your files before you buy a licence. However you can't recover the files unless you buy a licence ($50). Disk Recovery Software and Hard Drive Recovery tool for Windows
brill64 Posted September 19, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 19, 2009 if you're still having difficulty with this issue, switch over to the m9 forum for a moment and pick some brains there. you'll find a lot of very knowledgeable guys seldom seen on the m8 forum in recent days. keep your sd card safe for the moment and good luck with retrieving your files! norm_snyder Posted September 19, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2009 I had to recover some shots from an accidentally formatted SD card only last night. PhotoRescue worked well, was easy and cheap [abt $30- US]. You can preview with a free download, and see if it works, and only buy if you get the result you want, which will allow you to copy your recovered files. The address is http://www.datarescue.com Good luck!
ajz Posted September 21, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 21, 2009 I was in El Salvador last week and ended getting a 'card needs reformatting' message on a partially exposed Lexar SD card...I downloaded their Lexar rescue software and was able to save the images. Only catch was they were rescued as Tiff files rather than the formal dng files...they seem to work fine in Raw reading PS4 or lightroom. The software said the card's boot sector was corrupted....all other cards worked well...Z

Camarnas Posted July 6, 2014 Share #7 Posted July 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, I took some shoots with my M8 and and accidentally deleted a photo that should not be deleted. I look at this post and download the R-studio. I bought it and it detects the deleted files. I recover but I can not open them. I use Macosx Mavericks. some ideas? Dougg Posted July 10, 2014 Share #8 Posted July 10, 2014 Hi guys, I took some shoots with my M8 and and accidentally deleted a photo that should not be deleted. I look at this post and download the R-studio. I bought it and it detects the deleted files. I recover but I can not open them. I use Macosx Mavericks. some ideas? I expect the recovered file has lost its parent-identifying extension. It should open if you drag the file icon and drop it on the icon for the graphics application you wish to open it with. Or... Select the file (click once) and choose Get Info from the Finder's File menu (or just press Command key and letter i key). In the Get Info window see the drop-down menu called "Open with:" and from this menu choose an appropriate application to open the file, such as Preview for instance. Then, double-clicking the file should open it in Preview (or whatever application you chose). Doug
jaapv Posted July 10, 2014 Share #9 Posted July 10, 2014 Recovery software will rename .DNG to .TIFF However, it does not change the header so there will be a file type mismatch. The cure is extremely simple. Rename the files to .DNG.
Camarnas Posted July 10, 2014 Share #10 Posted July 10, 2014 Hi guys! None of this worked! The recover files are "*.JPG". Change it to DNG, TIFF or other gives the same error message: The file “A1120275.JPG” could not be opened. "It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognise." If I use the R-Studio again the result is the same. I didn´t format the SD card. I deleted the foto, leave the other fotos in there and try to recover the one that should´t be deleted. R-Studio gives me like 6 or 7 fotos, the ones I deleted. I´m betting that the foto I want is one of those. Regards Camarnas
jaapv Posted July 11, 2014 Share #11 Posted July 11, 2014 Use the Sandisk recovery software which is free iirc. which does work with DNGs except for the renaming, or alternately try running the present files through Adobe's (free) DNG converter. pop Posted July 11, 2014 Share #12 Posted July 11, 2014 Recovery might or might not work if you have written anything at all to the card after deleting the picture.
hoppyman Posted July 11, 2014 Share #13 Posted July 11, 2014 Use the Sandisk recovery software which is free iirc. which does work with DNGs except for the renaming, or alternately try running the present files through Adobe's (free) DNG converter. For what it is worth I tried that once with a Sandisk card and their recovery software. The recovery software assured me that yes indeed the images deleted in the camera were deleted (and not recoverable) My fault of course. the camera did exactly what I told it to do. Camarnas Posted July 14, 2014 Share #14 Posted July 14, 2014 It´s kind of odd, but I used R-Studio and PhotoRescue on the same SDcard and the results are different!! And on top of that some deleted images on the camera its showing up, not the one I want !! So, Different software´s different results.
mca Posted July 14, 2014 Share #15 Posted July 14, 2014 i just used CardRaider Photo Recovery (17 eur on the App Store, for Mac, or via website Recover Photos on Mac: CardRaider is the easiest, least expensive Mac solution) the other day to recover a .DNG from an SD card that had already been formated in camera and already had some new pictures taken. Worked like a charm and it recoverd the .DNG without any kind of problems whatsoever. Money well spent.
