oh come on please .....
anyone with a wish of seriously getting into photography, expanding their possibilities of doing so would not choose an M8 currently. There are much better, and might I say cheaper setups in the market. The M8 forum has very little to do with photography in general.... I personally don't mind this institution at all, if it's the hardware or brand you like .. fine, write, blog and pot about it all you can but do acknowledge that it' just the hardware you write about and not the photo taking attributes of the respective HW, which just isn't all that good compared to other top level setups. Now this is where it all starts, individuals do get trashed for mentioning shortcomings on M8 cameras and lenses, you quickly see a club of "backslappers" gang up on anybody who has only the slightest negative input on the M8. This club will consequently make fun of the original post, post replies as they have the "knowledge" in their back pockets and continue to do so day after day, week after week, etc. etc. I would like this Toffee club to actually expose their self acclaimed photographic genius, which I am sorry to say is not able to be found in the galleries. I give you all the gift of the gab, the quick mouth and the intelligence, whit and perseverance to absolutely diminish the thoughts of an M8 user (whom probably is a better photographer than all you backslappers put together) .. but can you actually put your 10k investment to good use, other than taking pictures of mountain ranges, flowers, boring images of people and old ladies walking the streets ..... try and do something which equals the size of your mouth... I must say I haven't seen to much of that. Photography is not only knowing the technical in's and out's of a noctilux you know .... you must all try to remember that the main thing in photography is producing nice images .... and all you blabber mouths fail to do that completely, as mentioned talking about it yes, judging, also (big time) ... but producing .... no way! |

Here's my take. First of all the DMR attracted much, much less attention outside of Leica circles then the M8. The big majority of photographers wrote off Leica R as a serius contendor in the SLR market years ago. With the M8 you got a lot of interest from outside the loyal Leicafan camp, and those people make comparisons (fare or not) to there brands and aren't into makeing excuses for gear just because there fanatics to the brand. From day one with the whole magenta IR-filter scandal, the M8 was off to a rocky start. Second of all, Leica only sold about 5 thou of the DMR before Imacon left them flat on there asses. I guess Leica must of figured they couldn't sell that many more DMR's, otherwise you'd of thunk they would of found another company to pick up the ball, just like they did when Jenoptics bailed on the M8. Honestly I don't understand why, if the DMR is so great, and there's such a high demand for it, that Leica don't just find new outsourcing for it and start makeing them again. It would sure cost them less then designing an R10, plus they could get it back on the market a lot quicker. Weird.

I think you know what I really think ....
And this is a good example of the "backslapper" mentality here .... adding on to another post and then naming the original poster "corny" .... but then again Jimmy in a group your always stronger aren't you .... judging by your institution here you must probably know about that too .... |

As to the Corny nickname, that would be for Cornelius. Cornelious shortened to a nickname could be Corny. Like Mikey or Micky is a nickname for Michael. |
