Default EV adjustment question

I was under the impression that once you make an EV adjustment with the menu option, that the adjustment should remain unchanged until you go back in and change it; however, that's not what's happening my case. After I take the shot, it automatically resets to 0 every time.

Per the manual:

"Particularly when taking several pictures in succes-
sion, e.g. if you want a series of pictures to deliberate-
ly have a slightly lower or higher exposure for a partic-
ular reason, exposure compensation is a very useful
function. Unlike Metering memory lock, once set it
remains effective until you (deliberately) reset it..."

Is there something I'm missing here? I usuallu shoot in Aperture mode.

I have noticed that if i change some settings in the camera, and subsequently the camera 'hangs' and I have to pull the battery out, it occasionally resets to what was there before.

I presume this is because the camera doesn't write the altered settings to persistent memory until it receives a normal shutdown event (like you switching it off).

If my supposition is correct, you might be able to work around your issue by switching the camera off and back on again after setting the EV adjustment.

Let me know if it works

David.

Default AW: EV adjustment question

I once set my M8 to -2/3EV. I've never touched that setting ever since, and it stores the value even when changing batteries. I have no clue whats going on with your camera and would show it your dealer. Cheers, Claus

There is nothing you are missing. Once you set EV to whatever it should stay. Unless you have set one of the User Profiles to NO EV comp and you then select that User Profile.

I have 2 M8's, permanently set @ -2/3EV. Many switch offs, battery removals, card swaps, etc have not changed those settings, unless I change them, which I do occassionally.

I think you may have a problem of some kind, or I do.

That's exactly what I just realized...it was my error. I had it set to a profile! Doh!

No that's not what I meant. It should only change IF after you set it you then select a user profile/ That will take the camera back to whatever was set when the profile was saved. In both the SET button menu and the MENU button menu.
Otherwise whatever setting you change, in either menu options, should always stick.

Hmmmm...I just tried setting a user profile and then setting the EV to -1/3 from a 0 setting. When I changed the EV I noticed that the user profile setting automatically changed from Profile 1 to Profile 0. This is something that I've really noticed before but then again I've not really used the EV adjustment very often.

Well when I set a user profile, I actually use all three (UP 0 (zero) is the base settings of the camera), and then make ANY CHANGES to ANY MENU item in either menu option the user profile goes to -, NOT to profile 0.
That suggests there may be a problem with your camera.
Try RESETTING all settings (Reset in the Menu button menu) and then reloading the firmware. After that make some changes to either menu and save it a a User Profile any profile will do. Load that profile, if it isn't automatically loaded, and then make one change to either menu and see if the User Profile goes to -.
If it doesn't and it again goes to UP 0 then you have a problem that need to fixed by Leica.

Thanks, shootist...I looked again and in my haste, I realize that I stand corrected. It in fact does go to -, not 0. So it does sound like it's doing what it's supposed to. As for me, I think I need a lot more coffee today!
