Frage 'End-of-file' error message

I have not heard of this before so I'm not sure if this is an M8 issue or a card issue. I am getting an occasional 'end-of-file' message when I am downloading multiple DNG files into Lightroom 1.3 from a 4GB Transcend card. I then tried to open these same files into CS 3. What I found there is that the DNG files are very small (~2 MB) and will not open in CS3. The thumbnails look fine but that's all. I also have been simultaneously shooting basic JPGs which open fine in both programs. This is a mystery to me and I hope someone here has some insight on this. Thanks in advance.....

It sounds like you have DNG's that are corrupt.

I've experienced this when my M8 freezes up shooting in rapid secession and I'm forced to remove the battery (buffer can't complete writing to card).

Are you shooting and then turning the camera off before the images are written to card? That at times corrupts files.

Hope this helps.

Steve--
As I understand, part of the file structure contains information about the file--how big it is, where it's located, its name--and another part of the file structure holds the file itself.

So what is happening is just what 35m said: The header tells the OS where to find the file, but when the system retrieves it, it's smaller than expected.

I had a couple similar experiences with my Transcend 150x 4GB cards, also with unreadable 2MB files.

My guess is that it's the camera as 35m said. I think the few cases I had of the problem may have come when I turned the M8 off before it had finished writing to card.

Are you running current firmware? Has your camera been serviced by Leica since December 2007?

Hi Steve,

Do the files come across all right if you download them singly? Or if you use a card reader and copy them to your hard drive before opening them with Lightroom?

Format your Trancend 4GB 150X SD card with your car reader using your computer. If you get an error trying to format it with your computer, use another camera which supports SDHC cards (mostly all P&S can do that).
