After a few thousand shots and while still in the guarantee period, M8 developed the first hotpixel, very close to the center of the photos.
The first reaction was Xy!1? Next day one gets used to the problem, and hopes that no other hot pixels will develop. single ones or in bigger numbers around the original one? Anyway, does anyone know what the policy of Leica is regarding problems like this? I wanted to learn from users before asking to my agent right away? BTW, a single pixel does not really affect anything at all. It's just the possibility that others may follow. Does anyone have similar problems? And what happened later on? Best regards, Seyhun

I was told by Leica in New Jersey that I could send the camera in, but frankly Aperture does a good job of mapping out the hot pixel on my camera in the raw conversion so I haven't bothered. If the quiet shutter upgrade ever happens and I decide it's worth springing for I may have it done then, but otherwise I'm living with it.

Strangely enough this week I saw one clearly on a series of shots when looking on the LCD and zooming in massively - in the same spot near the centre.
But no trace of it on the actual photos. What else could it be?

I took my hot pixel discovery calmly, until I turned the ISO up to 1250, and then the hot pixel turns into a blue line.
I am still shooting though, and debating when would be the best time to send it in. I recently bought a Bessa R2a to prepare for that day, and to satisfy my curiosity about how these leica lenses look full frame. |

Hot or dead pixels develop on most sensors over time. There should be a routine in the firmware to map them out. My old Olympus E-1 has this. While a hot pixel or two is very easy to manually clone out, it can get a little old when you have to do it on 300 shots.

I saw one on one of mine - and it disappeared spontaneously...
![]() I'm sure Leica can remap the sensor if needed, basically for digital cameras that is routine maintenance. |

Thanks, it seems that I'm not alone.
Removing it with this or that was not my question, but thanks also to those that made suggestions regarding that too. In my older cameras, it never stayed with one pixel, but rather increased in bigger numbers around that area (a weak spot in manufacturing process?). That's the concern. It may be a good idea for Leica to offer a mapping program, which in the past I have used with some camerasand it worked fine. Or would Leica prefer to do the mapping themself, with all the handling and costs is what Leica knows better.. Best regards, Seyhun

I don't have any experience with C1 v4, but the only other raw converter I'm familiar with ACR does a fine job as well.
