Erick, first be welcome.

I do like wide angle, the 18mm have an angle of view equivalent to 24 FF, which is already quite a wide angle. Or a 21 that's near the 28, and the 28 close to 35mm, etc. Depending on what lens you already have and on your own view, the choice is large. |

It's a question on which lot of people can have very different ideas, depending on the mood that one has towards the concept of "landscape"... for some, it can mean "max sharpness and depth of focus", so max aperture isn't so important... but some other may privilege the selective focusing of landscape's "depth" (but this really is a field of use for teles, not for the lenses you quote)...
In my opinion, two rather "cheap" modern Leica lenses are an excellent choice : the Elmarit Asph 28 and the Summarit 35... having to choose one of those rather near focals, I'd prefer the 28, but if one likes to have both, a budget-wise choice could be one of them plus one Voigtlander... to say... Leica 28 asph + Voigt 35 2,5, or Leica Summarit 35 + Voigt 28 f3,5 (or 25 f4.. a little more "distant") 50 is a something "strange" focal on M8 : would I have to choose a 3 lens set for landscape, I'd go for 75 + 35 + 21 (or 18, or the WATE, Leica 16-18-21 "tri-lens, if you sit onto an appreciable pile of money... )And of course... Well... I simply was pointing out the fact that an excellent lens like the Leica 28 f2,8 Asph has a price that is not stellar like some other Leica lenses : to say ... it's about exactly HALF the price of the Summicron 28 f2 : personally, I'd not evaluate such a difference, The Summilux 35 f 1,4 is 2,5x the price of the Summarit 35 f 2,5... is it worth ? In Leica world, the term "cheap" is relative... and both the lenses I quoted are really excellent performers... can find many examples in this forum... not that I don't appreciate the value of a very luminous prime lens, Leica is very strong in this area, and they correctly put a "premium price" on this, but in landscape, for me, top aperture it's not so important as in other fields: you can put together, for example, a set of 3-4 excellent lenses for the price of 2 top luminosity: in my opinion, is a wise choice: sharpness is always at the top on Leica lenses... and the 28 and 35 I mentioned are two of Leica newest designs.

I definitely support this suggestion; even shooting "townscapes" it is great to change a lens by turning a ring, and I find the quality is the same as the fixed-focus lens. Try it!

Luigi, I suspect you might have difficulty marketing something called the ASPH hole...
![]() Regards, Bill P.S. Back on topic, I'm in the camp of those who believe that there is no such thing as a "landscape" lens in the same way that there is no such thing as a "portrait" lens. It all depends upon the way in which you wish to capture the scene. Any Leica lens is up to the job. Whether or not they are "cheap" is of course subjective. Regards, Bill

It's no longer in production. You'll have to look for second hand ones. At 28mm it has a bit of distortion but given what it is, its an excellent lens. For the M8 you're best off with a coded version though you can have any coded. There are plenty of reviews on the web, just google it.
