If it's a camera with a phone attached perhaps to fit in with the spirit of the times they ought to change its name to the "iM8".

as far as the processing power of the camera, from my understanding the camera process's 12 bit to 8 bit and up to 16 so how much more power would it need to just process 16? I'm hoping this is a firmware update they have in mind because this is my biggest complaint with the camera.

Going from 12 bits to 8 bits is pretty easy. It looks up each 12 bit pixel value in a table 4096 Bytes long (4096 is 2^12) and finds an 8 bit value with which to encode it. No arithmetic required. And the values are pretty appropriate for showing on the LCD. Incidentally, memory is not in short supply inside-- it's pretty cheap. Buffers and busses for moving data around are what gets expensive, and these resources are probably what is saved by not having a full 16 bit camera.

Well, comparing a native 16 bit camera (DMR) with a processed 16 bit camera (m8), I can testify that such an "upgrade"is not worth it if there is any downside to it. The differences are minimal, if any.

just got my M8 back from NJ with some repairs, CLA and new firmware...1.201
am I out of it, or is that pretty new?
