All photos must have been posted no later than midnight (local time, you guys), Sunday, May 18, 2008. 3. Photos must be taken with a Leica M8. 4. Photos will be collected after May 18th. All preparation to spec (see Image Spec #1, above, or a spec that fits a Blurb photo page for this horiz. 10x8 format) must be done by the artist. ***** I will happily take suggestions about formating stuff in this editor.

I'm in. I'll have to look through my archive and see if I want to change any of the photos. I suspect I will.
I have a lot of professional experience with all aspects of the publishing process, Bill-- layout, prepress/packaging, separations, etc. Though I don't have the bandwidth to take something like this on, I really applaud your willingness to do so and after the photos come in if you need some advice I'm more than willing to talk your ear off ![]() I might suggest really cutting down on the text. Your rules, of course, but good typesetting can be a pain and I for one would rather the book be about images, not about words, even in an appendix. I'd stick to a) and b) in your list, and furthermore impose a word number restriction on descriptions. Having edited several compendiums of art and literature, I can say from experience that you'd be surprised how many pages the remaining items in your list will take when added together. |

Narayan, thanks for the generous offer.
I take the advice about text gratefully. This is a fun project and I appreciate the enthusiasm and stunning pix from the participants.

Hi,
I'd like to edit my post, and change one of the photos I contributed. How do I do that? Thanks. Peter Bill, thanks very much for all the time and effort you're putting in to this bookproject! |

From memory that's my normal working space for b&w images with film. With the M8 I stick to ProPhoto as the working profile and then convert to sRGB before posting to the web.
On another tack, why is is necessary to post our photographs in a forum thread? That only seems to be causing confusion for those who have changed their mind. Why can't we just send them to Bill when he's ready to receive them? Seems the simpler option to me.

IU was thinking about this process while driving to work and it's clear that anthropologists of the 25th century will write dozens of books about this thread and the accompanying photo thread.
They will speak of archaic tools and dogged determination in the face of obstacles that the denizens of the 25th century would scoff at. For example, the use of metal-and-glass dousing rods to imagine what things might look like. Incessant tweaking of the color red which they can no longer see. The convoluted thought process used to generate a product that can't even be left outdoors. Clearly, our names will be in those history books and behavior studies. We'll all be famous "cave men." Regards to all,

If you're following this thread, there is a superb picture of mountains in post # 161 in the photo thread.
This wonderful little machine, the M8, makes images that have enormous detail and subtlety in them.

Bill - forgive me for coming in late to this, and perhaps you'll grant a special indulgence since it was my post that got the anniversary thread going!
Thank you for taking this on, and for organizing things. And perhaps this is clear as daylight in an earlier post, but: If one posted in the linked thread the photos that he or she wants to have submitted for the book, do you need us also to send you an uncompressed file? Or are you somehow going to get the images from the original thread and make them all work for the book? Count me in for multiple copies of the book, by the way. Honored to be associated with it, and so much great photography by so many great photographers. JB |

John, we all owe you a thanks for starting it.
If you look above, post #82, you will find the current set of "rules" for the book. Please go to blurb.com to see what these books can look like. Regards, Bill

Luigi (and all the contributors) -- don't worry about deleting a photo. I'll be in touch with everyone to make sure I get the correct 3 pix for each person. Then, I'll post with the list I am working with so that I don't print the wrong pic.
I am doing the following: 1. counting and keeping track of which pic each person wants 2. looking to see if the pic needs a release (I'll contact you directly) 3. preparing my next request The next request will ask you for the details about the pic and a hi-res version for me to put in the book. See the details in post #82, above. I will review the hi-res version and make sure it fits the spec. I am still exploring ways for the pix to be transmitted to me, but may ask for a CD or DVD medium. 29 days and counting. Regards to all,
