50mm Rigid Summicron or 50mm Summitar for M8?

Hi Wilson,
I can't find any info anywhere that says the Summitar filter changed from the tapered 36mm thread. Fortunately the glass in the filter with the slotted retainer is the same diameter as the glass in the 39mm Heliopan UV/IR. I find the clearance between the collapsed Summar, Summitar and Summicron is at least 1/4 inch to the M8 sensor filter. But I still keep these lenses extended when mounted. I just feel better about it.

Thanks for the info Len. I am going to get an SNHOO adapter, which is push on over the outside of the Summitar and will take a 39mm UV/IR filter, of which I have quite a few on various other lenses. It will also enable me to get a bog standard 39mm hood, rather than the barn door joke. My Summitar has next to perfect coating, having spent most of its life in a drawer, as for some reason, my father always preferred his Summar. Even though, it still is quite prone to flare and a hood will help. The clearance sounds fine. With my now sold 50 Elmar-M, the clearance at infinity was only 2mm.

Actually the SNHOO screws into the Summitar, but yes, it does allow one to use the more common 39mm filters and screw-in hoods.

The trick is to find a SNHOO. Rather uncommon.

I'm glad to hear that the Summitar is able to collapse in to the M8, too!

I have also found an SOOGZ which seems to be the same but it may be that the SNHOO is wrongly showing a photo of the SOOGZ. There is also an SOOQR but I think that is the other way round to enable you to use Summitar filters on an e39 lens. Confused - well certainly I am.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, I am certain that my SNHOO screws into the Summitar.

HMMM....last week I saw an ad supposedly for a SNHOO on eBay, but the fellow actually was showing a photo of a SOOQR. I sent the seller an email pointing out his error and he quickly replied admitting to his mistake. I think he even made a "corrrection note" within the eBay ad (but you had to read the fine print). Here it is:

So don't worry, you aren't the only one confused. But I hope it wasn't you or anyone on this forum who got caught paying $78 for the SOOQR (they usually go for much less)!

...and if you do indeed end up with a SOOGZ, I'm sure you will let us know if it fits your Summitar. For some reason I had thought the SOOGZ was for A36 lenses and not the Summitar. I may be wrong. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks for all the info. Having spoken to various helpful people and read all the available info, the only adapter that will work is the SNHOO, so that is all I am looking for. Sadly they appear to be as common as rocking horse SHPOO.
