I think it would continue to propagate the "Leica = Neck Jewelry for Men" concept.
Bet it's lighter than air, but the gaping whole in my finances would not justify it.

That's not so special. Here's my ultimate tripod.

It's a little heavier and the folded length is a little longer then the regular Gitzo traveler but it costs 10 times as much. It does hold more weight but that is not needed for the M8. The leather case is beautiful but really adds to the bulk and weight.
On the other hand it would probably look nice with the 24-carat gold plated King Bhumiphol Leica special edition and the King could always have a porter carry the leather tripod case ![]() |

I have that tripod in the regular editiion (GT1540T). It is a great tripod and costs a little over $500. I cannot imagine that the titanium parts would make it that much lighter. I do like the case though. However, the price is ridiculous

If that's so special for a 90th anniversary, what will be available for their 100th anniversary? Their tripods are great but expensive enough already thanks.
However, designer tripods... makes me think: - Gucci camera bags - Rayban polarising filters - Armani photo/fishing vests enough! |

It's a limited edition collectible... You can't really judge the price in ordinary market terms: this is brand building: think of it more as a marketing and PR stunt than a new product effort. (Whether a market exists for a collectible tripod is another matter.)
"Titanium" stuff aside, I've seen the "regular" carbon version of this tripod and it is a very innovative design, actually quite appealing for a Leica M. The case is retro cool... like my old Rollei TLR cases. I might actually be tempted to buy one of those for the "regular" tripod if it were offered as a production item. |

I would doubt that their will be any left in a short period.Collectors will buy them. The same people who buy a special edition of an M camera .They will probably be put in a display case and never used. The owner will no doubt get pleasure from owning the tripod and the rest of his or her collection, in the same way that we get pleasure from using it.It take all sorts.

It's not lighter. It's a little heavier and also the collapsed size is a bit bigger. So functionally unless you need the greater weight bearing capability and torsional rigidity the stock Traveler is a better travel tripod for a lot less money.
