Default Help with viewfinder problem

I just bought a used Noctilux, when I put it on my new M8 the marking in the viewfinder show the 90mm crop rather than the 50mm marks. My 50mm Summicron and other lens are showing the correct marks. Any ideas what's wrong?

did you try giving the frame selector a little nudge? sometimes it sticks a bit. otherwise your noctilux mount may be compromised or not even a 50mm mount.....b

Check the lengths of the flanges on the bayonet rings, specifically the one opposite the cut out in the bayonet ring. You should find the one on the Noctiluxis exactly the same length as other 50s.

Mark, your right. There's a slight difference is the length of the flange. Can that be adjusted in some way?

Is this a NEW Noctilux??? If so you should have it adjusted by Leica.
If you bought it used then I still send it to Leica and have it checked over or return it to whoever you bought it from.

Also make sure your not turning it past the locking lug when you're mounting it.

Raymond,

I'd suggest taking the camera and lens to Steve Choi in Culver City. (¢Æ Steve's Camera Service Center ¢Æ) He's a camera tech recommended by the LHSA (and by me). He'll be able to look at the lens and tell you what's up.

If your Nocti calls up the 90 frame, then you can file down the lug on the bayonet until it calls up the 50/75 frame. That's because the 28/90 lug is longest, 50/75 slightly shorter, and 24/35 (on the M8) the shortest. Be careful, though: it doesn't take many swipes of a rat-tail file.

But I agree that it might be best to send it in so that other aspects can be checked.

Sounds like the Noctilux had been fitted with an incorrect bayonet mount at some point.
