28mm f2.8 asph hood

I have just picked up a new 28mm f2.8 asph and was wondering if any other owners had noticed that the hood was an extremely tight fit and did not appear to go all the way on?

If a kind owner could post a photo of the hood on the lens it would be much appreciated.

I stopped using the thing. The hood for the 50 (!) mm Elmar-M 2.8 collapsible is round, screws in, is much smaller yet more effective and does not vignette.

Or for a hood that may block more flare & is 'vented,' #12585 for 35mm Summicrons & various 50s works just fine.

Mine is snug but not what I'd call tight. Like so many of Leica's puzzle hoods there is a bit of a manual trick. 1. Be sure to align the white line with the corresponding notch at the top of the lens. There's a dove-tail fitting to this hood. 2. Be sure to press the spring tabs at the sides as you mount/dismount the hood.

I experimented between using the flare hood versus the cap. Yes, using just the cap makes for a really small lens but I prefer the flare hood for the additional physical and optical protection it offers.

Ordered it from Leica. I have three, one for the Elmar-M, where it is the standard hood, one as a replacement for the Summicron 35 asph and one for the 28/2.8 asph.

Here is how the original hood looks like. Or you can use the old vented 12504 which is OK on the M8.

And here is the old 35mm hood mentioned above. It can use series VII filters and those stay with the hood.

Another alternative is a screw in 39mm wide angle hood. I bought one on eBay from a seller called "heavystar," but he doesn't have any 39's listed right now. I know Guy Mancuso has bought hoods from him as well. His prices are low and the hoods are nice.

If i may ask one more favour.

Does anyone have a photograph of the lens looking vertically down on it so that you can see the gap between the hood and the lens and its location relative to how far into the notch in the lens the tab on the hood goes?

It is normally tight fit because it is rectangular so it has a stop pin which prevents it to rotate (pic 1 below).
Same for that of the Summicron 35/2 which is nearly identical.
It is more effective that the little Elmar's referred to by Jaap above and it is more protective as well because metal screw-in hoods may damage the filter thread of the lens in case of drop or bump.
Now its only flaw is to be too perfect so to speak. I mean it fits so tightly on the lens that it is often used to mount and un-mount the latter on the body which caused the barrel of some crons 35/2 to unstick and rotate as well.
Otherwise the #12504 (George's pic) and 12585 referred to by Kirk (pic 2 below) fit very well indeed.
