Default 35mm Summicron IV version - silver ??

Hi there,

Im on the hunt for a IV version of the 35mm summicron, but in silver. Does this things really exist ? I've read that they do, but I've searched and searched and can't find anything.

If they are rarer than the black ( seems so, blacks are easily found ), do they command a higher price ? If so, how much more ?

The v. 4 was sold in silver for only 3-4 years 1993-96 (cat. # Leica 11311) according to Leica's list of codable lenses. I've never seen one myself, but might have a brochure from that era that shows them (I'll have to check).

In any event, obviously not common. The pre-ASPH 35 Summilux in chrome may actually be more 'available', and I've heard its fingerprint is similar to the v. 4 cron.

Hi. I do have one that I purchased from Kurland in New York last year. Kurland Photo

I think I paid around $1200 US. The chrome IV's are made in Germany vs. Canada for the blacks(at least mine is) and much heavier than the black counterpart, as expected. I love it! My baby!

Hope that helps a bit. I'd recommend calling Kurland, Photo Village, Tamarkin and asking them to keep a look out for one.

Best,
Ron
