M Mount / screwmount compatibility problem

Hello,

I would like to mount a screwmount Elmar 3,5cm 1:3,5 on my M8 body with a Leitz 9cm adapter.

Same thing happens as when I mounted it on my M2 : I cannot focus closer than 1,75 meters. The focusing ring still moves, but the rangefinder tab stops "moving" below the 1,75m scale.

Anyone had this experience before ?

Does it come from the lens or from the adapter ?

Thank you for your help !

I think....you need a 35/135 adapter.

I think I found my answer in a (negative) review of cheap adapters :

" The second problem is rotational position of a Leica screw mount lens on these adapters. Certain Leica and non-Leica screw mount lenses have a recess to allow clearance of the rangefinder arm & roller. This recess on the lens needs to align with the rangefinder arm recess in the adapter.

Typical of other Chinese made adapters, when the screw mount lens is attached, the two recesses do not align. The end result with certain wide-angle lenses is that the rangefinder arm bottoms out and prevents rangefinder focus for distances closer then around 8 to 10 feet."

The question remains : My adapter is a Leica so how can I make sure that the 35mm adapter I will buy will work correctly ? Any good feedback ?

Thanks.

Hi Pierre

I'd say definitely the adapter.

I had same problem with a couple of cheapo adapters on my old Summaron 50mm f3.5 LTM on my M8, and my M6...it would not allow rangefinder focusing less than about 2m. I tried a better adapter, and it focuses properly to 1m.

cheers Dave S :)
