primitiveprobe Posted January 30, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 30, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been lurking here for some time so please don't kill me for complaining in my first post. Anyhow, there's been lots of post on Leica customer service. Some have good experience, others the opposite. What I find curiuos is that when our beloved are sent to Solms/Wetzlar the cost for fixing the cameras seems rather random. I sent in my M8 (very early serial number) the other day for pixel remapping a few weeks ago, and then receive a hefty quote on replacing the shutter that (I thought) worked perfectly. Others on this forum seems to have their shutters replaced for free even out of warranty. Any tips or tricks? Why would Leice insist on replacing a seemingly working shutter?? Necessary labour costs repair pixel/line fault on image exchange shutter Carry out software adjustment adjust range finder clean range finder adjustment of all parts cleaning and end control Cheers, Andreas

k_g_wolf ✝ Posted January 30, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) Welcome to the Forum, Andreas. A proper technician sees and hears much more than the average customer. In case they offer to change the shutter they have a reason for it and this will bring your camera back to initial factory standards. In case you decide against it, contact the person given on the quote and inform them. If you have questions, use the phone. If you stick to your decision you will loose of course a guarantee on the shutter function. In case it was my case and I wanted to live with the camera for a few more years I would certainly have it changed, would I have plans to sell it, I might leave it as it is ... primitiveprobe Posted January 30, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted January 30, 2015 Thank you Georg! I was thinking of replacing it with something else that could take M-lenses, but then none of them had a shutter dial so better get it fixed and hopefully get an even better experience when it returns. k_g_wolf ✝ Posted January 30, 2015 Share #4 Posted January 30, 2015 You can expect a MUCH better camera exprience than before. And you will most likely have a more refined, smoother shutter in future. I´am wishing you a good LEICA time. Best GEORG
