As I have described in other threads I have recently returned to Leica with a MP having got throughly fed up with a Digital SLR in one hand (and the instruction book in the other).

While I am loving the MP it occurred to me that my previous disenchantment was more to do with the complexity of the DLSR rather than the medium of digital itself so I started to look around at what was available and thought about the M9. As I was starting to get serious the business of the M9 sensor took off and although Leica are now offering to change faulty sensors for free a permanent fix has not been discovered yet.

Early last week saw me in London and there it was, a minty chrome M8 in the window of RG Lewis at a fair looking price so I went in and a deal was struck, 6 months warranty included and a spare battery was purchased as well.

I have also acquired a 28mm Elmarit asph to go with it and they appear to be made for one another.

I had a pleasant surprise when I registered it on the Leica website, it appears that the original owner had never bothered and two free uv/ir filters are now on their way to me, nice one Leica.

So far, and it is very early days admittedly, she seems as solid as a rock and I have been basically using her like a film camera, taking time over each shot rather than scattergun taking 500 pictures and then deleting 495 of them.

Unfortunately my pre-asph 35mm Summilux doesn't want to know but I have spotted a Voightlander or two that might join in on the fun.

I have already asked some pretty basic questions on here so expect more in the future ;),

regards to all, Rob

Hi David, I understand from various threads that some of the pre-asph 35mm Summilux have a rear element that catches inside the M8 Body and will not focus through it's full range, lucky me has such a lens, when I purchased it I was not thinking about buying a M8 at all . I do have a bit of a thing for Russian glass though and so can work around it, cheers Rob
