Advertisement Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Hi photolandscape, Take a look here Determining Shutter Actuations on an M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sdai Posted October 4, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 4, 2007 Post a M8 directly generated jpeg (without PS) in the thread then I'll tell you the number.
carstenw Posted October 4, 2007 Share #3 Posted October 4, 2007 You need a tool which can display ALL the EXIF, not just the usual field. Somewhere there is a hex count, I forget where. If you search here you should be able to find it, since we have had threads on this before.
Venkman Posted October 4, 2007 Share #4 Posted October 4, 2007 If you use firefox as browser, this plugin will do the job nicely: https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/3905 Then look for the unique ID which is at the end of the file and looks like this: Image Unique ID = xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx It's a hex code, which you can convert to decimal here: hexadecimal conversion, convert decimal to hexadecimal
ArtZ Posted October 4, 2007 Share #5 Posted October 4, 2007 You can also do it with Adobe Photoshop Bridge CS3. Search on this forum "image unique ID" there're few threads on this topic. ;

I downloaded it via Firefox, but I am not sure where it is plugged in, how to open it, and use it? Maybe it is explained in German, which I am afraid I don't know. Thanks. Shootist Posted October 4, 2007 Share #9 Posted October 4, 2007 sweet - only 11086, does anyone know how many actuations the shutter is rated for? I think it is rated at 150,000. But it could be more.
Shootist Posted October 4, 2007 Share #10 Posted October 4, 2007 Dirk, thanks. I downloaded it via Firefox, but I am not sure where it is plugged in, how to open it, and use it? Maybe it is explained in German, which I am afraid I don't know. Thanks. No need to download anything. All you need is a scientific calculator, whether on your PC or hand held. Input the HEX and covert to Decimal. You can do that with Windows built in Calc program and I'm sure Apple/Mac must have one also.

Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 4, 2007 Share #15 Posted October 4, 2007 So between 2 camera's i have shot 19k in frames in less than a year. Now if i could magically multiply that by 10 dollars per frame that would make me happy:D
trs Posted October 4, 2007 Share #16 Posted October 4, 2007 Guy, From what I remember, a frame of velvia used to cost me about $0.50 (film+development). So, your 19K frames in velvia would've cost you $9500.00. It looks like you just paid both of your cameras if you think you were shooting film the whole time. Every frame you shoot from now on is free -tanka
Guest guy_mancuso Posted October 4, 2007 Share #17 Posted October 4, 2007 You know we completely forget about that stuff with the cost of film. Amazing stat. Of course there is time behind the keyboard but still at least you can add that one up. That is pretty cool to see that number on the costs. thanks
dogberry Posted October 5, 2007 Share #18 Posted October 5, 2007 Pretty nerdy stuff on Leica's part to record the number of shutter actuations in hexadecimal. I guess it does save a lot of ROM space and it's a very natural counting system if have a silicon body and 8 legs! BTW: Nerdy Joke: There are 10 kinds of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who don't! Gordon
photolandscape Posted October 6, 2007 Author Share #19 Posted October 6, 2007 Post a M8 directly generated jpeg (without PS) in the thread then I'll tell you the number. I know, it's a very mundane image, but wondered if you could check the data and let me know how many shutter actuations my M8 has on it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Welcome, dear visitor!
