Any issue with this M8?

I bought a second hand Leica M8 and while taking pictures I notice that the upper left hand corner has a grey blot.

What can cause this?

I do not know how to post a picture on this site. I can provide pictures or if someone can guide me that will be appreciated.

I blow the lens and the sensor with a camera blower and it get worst. now it has two grey blots (spots).

So looks like it is dust in the system.

I am newbie and so what can i do? just very gently swabbing it with denatured alcohol

and a Q-Tip?

Thanks.

NO! Sensors are very sensitive to damage and a Q-Tip will likely just smear the stain.

Work in the cleanest room or place you can.

Start with a Rocket Blower. NEVER USE COMPRESSED CANNED AIR.

From the menu, put the camera in the clean mode to open the shutter.

Turn camera so the lens mount faces down. Blow around the sides then work towards the sensor.

Retest the camera with a lens set to maximum aperture pointed at the sky.

If that fails, get an Arctic Butterfly brush and carefully follow the directions. Never use a Q-Tip. Repeat with the Rocket Blower

Finally, wet clean. I highly recommend the Visible Dust System (Sensor cleaning system for digital camera.) 1.3X size. You must use the correct swab for the M8 sensor.

Wet cleaning a sensor is more than some people want to do. If that makes you uncomfortable I highly recommend taking it to a Leica repair center.

Once a sensor is wet cleaned you should only need to use a Rocket Blower or the Arctic Butterfly from then on. Just be careful not to let moisture or contaminates get into your camera.

I try to restrict lens changing to areas or places where dust is at a minimum. I change lenses quickly and always point the camera at the floor to minimize dust intrusion.

I will place the lens on a table and loosen the end cap so it is ready to simply pull off. Then dismount the current lens as it points down and set that down while I pull the top off the new lens and quickly mount it.

I took out the lens (summicron 40mm f2) and shoot it. First I shhot a white wall, a white piece of paper and towards the sky with no lens and I can not see the grey spots.

It may be the lens that cause the grey spots.

I do not have a second lens and i am heading down to a camera store to try another lens to see if my summicron 40mm f2 is the culprit or not.

Thanks.

Highly unlikely. You cannot see the spots any more because the light falling on the sensor is diffuse, instead of focused like through a lens.

I went to the camera store and the guy show me how to blow the sensor and it works. Now I do not see the grey spots. I thought it was the lens but the summicron 40mm f2 is ok as well as it turns out it is the dust on the sensor and after blowing the sensor, the grey spots are gone no longer show up in the pics.

Thank you everyone for helping me and making the Leica M8 a great experience.
