RexS Posted May 13, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello All, I have been nosing around the forum for some time, but haven't seen anyone post this sort of thing... I have been trying to emulate the classic black and white photography of histology and embryology from the 1950s and 1960s and I think I finally found the right combination with the M8 and Apple Aperture (Hopefully it posted correctly...) geotrupede Posted May 13, 2014 Share #2 Posted May 13, 2014 very interesting, what microscope are you using and how to you use the M8 on it? Thanks G
RexS Posted May 14, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted May 14, 2014 Hi, I am using a Leitz system from the early 1960s - The microscope is an Ortholux and the camera is mounted on an Aristophot with the IFLEX-M attachment. The IFLEX is essentially a Visoflex with changeable ground glass and clear screens. At one time I used a film body with a MIKAS attachment, but I found the MIKAS didn't provide enough support for the weight of the M8. CrisRose Posted May 15, 2014 Share #4 Posted May 15, 2014 That's awesome! I'd love to do something like this myself!
Gerard Posted May 15, 2014 Share #5 Posted May 15, 2014 So what are we looking at here? And through what glass?
jip Posted May 16, 2014 Share #6 Posted May 16, 2014 Wow awesome, would love to see a picture of the whole setup. So I can actually imagine how this setup looks like.
RexS Posted May 19, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted May 19, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Gerard, The photo is a histological section of an ovarian follicle, showing a large central oocyte surrounded by a lot of granulosa cells. The image was taken with a Plano 40X objective (Leitz) and the magnification at the sensor is approximately 105X (the final magnification depends on your screen). Rex. RexS Posted May 19, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted May 19, 2014 Hello Jip, Except for the M8, the set up is based on the Leitz Ortholux circa 1959-1960... ...wait a minute, I am having some difficulty posting the image...

jip Posted May 25, 2014 Share #10 Posted May 25, 2014 That is just a awesome looking 'thing' and your M8 seems 'brand new' nice! Would love to play with it and just take pictures of everything I can find and put it under the microscope! Haha
jip Posted May 25, 2014 Share #11 Posted May 25, 2014 I head you do it with Apple aperture, if you connect the USB cable to your Mac, from the M8 you can do tethered shooting. That way the picture will instantly appear in your aperture software. So you don't have to take out the SD card etc, from your big setup! Maybe you know this but I thought I'll just tell it! RexS Posted May 28, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted May 28, 2014 Thanks for the kind word - I am still wrestling with whether color or monochrome is the best way to go. I suppose it depends on the image. Welcome, dear visitor! RexS Posted May 28, 2014 Author Share #13 Posted May 28, 2014 ...and apparently my jpg coming out of Aperture are just a hair larger than the maximum allowed by the forum. But here are a few more.
