Just to confirm 'the usefulness of this list': I attach a crop of a picture shot with my M8 before it was sent to Solms for fixing. This red line appeared right in the middle of the picture, in the lower part (or at the upper part of the sensor). It wouldn't go away so I sent the camera in.
Do anyone know what the cause is? PS. This is a small crop from 100% in PS and gives a good indication with what delicacy the Leica optics (WATE) draw light.... |

Hi Olsen, it sure doesn't look right. How was this shot made? It seems to have a lot of compression or noise reduction. Was it converted from RAW?
Looks like a hot pixel at the center of the line that is radiating outward. If this was converted from RAW did it appear in different RAW handling programs? I've found artifacts from Adobe Bridge that were no present when converted in C1. Best wishes, hope you get your camera back quickly. Dan States Pleasant Prairie Wisconsin USA |

Unless this was a vertical shot originally, I would not think a hot pixel would contaminate a whole bunch of other rows this way - they tend to affect pixels in their own row in the direction the data feeds out (to the sides in a horizontal shot)
If it is really dead center, then it is likely related to the fact that the sensor has dual channels and reads half the data out to each side. Lines of that nature have been noted before - and it is something Leica can and should fix. Bad sensor, in that case. I have one that shows up at high ISOs OFF-center, which I'll have to get around to sending in at some point. |

"Olsen",
I had the same problem and sent mine in to Leica NJ after talking to them on the phone. They will have to replace the circuit board is what I was told. Evidently there was a back order for the item from Solms (I had already been waiting 6 weeks) and they sent me a new camera. It is more pronounced at high ISOs and if it seems you don't have the problem at lower ISOs if you have Photoshop or LightRoom, take your "Fill Light" and "Recovery " sliders and push them all the way to the right. The line will appear in every image. It has nothing to do with RAW converters or SD cards. |

It looks as if you will have to send it back, again. What a pain .... Pixel Fixer looks interesting except if you use a Mac like I do, you cannot use it is is only for PC use. But it is free ....(the price is right) You might try it. If it works, it might be better than sending it in. |

My replacement M8 (for the original one with the dead shutter) developed a similar red line after about three weeks use and the CCD was replaced by Solms (with a two week turn around - which was very impressive).

You talked to Interfoto Tom? They have started to make some fixes there if understand them right so I would check with them before you send it to Solms. If I understod it right they had a repair guy in Solms for 3 months so they can do some of the repairs themselfs. Im not sure what they do and what they dont do though.
