Domke F8/F3x - pictures with RF gear?

Hi all, this is a cross-post with RFF, so apologies to folk who frequent both. I was hoping there might be more bites here...

I'm looking at getting either a Domke f8 or f3x to replace an f10 for my film kit. I love the f10, but after using it with the M2 for a few months I'm finding it lacks some extra pockets to organise things like film and a light meter. Hence my interest in the other two bags with their side pockets...

This is what I carry around the place:

M2

VM 35/f2.5 Color Skopar (may become a 35/f1.4 Nokton in the future)

VM 50/f1.5 Nokton

Leica 90/f2.8 Tele-Elmarit (fat version)

Sekonic L-308

2-3 rolls of film

Small note-book, small wallet, Sharpie, pencil, phone, lens cloth.

Does anyone have actual real-world photos of either bag with a similar kit? I've found quite a few reviews of both bags, but generally they have pics of CSC/dSLR kits with largish zooms... I find that the F10 main compartment is slightly bigger than I need, and I'm concerned the F8 might be a tad small, and the F3x a tad big.

Cheers, Nick

Nick,

That's about what I carry. I found the F2 to be too big, and the F3x as well. I'm using an F10 right now and it's working out OK. Just have to get used to the different arrangement of stuff. The F5Xb(?) is very nice for a "small" amount of gear and film; I've done a couple weeks in Europe with that, with more film in suitcase. I'll get you an image of my F10 setup after work.

If only Domke would scale down the F2 in a couple dimensions...

I don't suppose you still have the f3x?

Yes, but I never sell a Domke. :) My wife never got the cult of Domke. The last time we took a walk I was carrying water, an extra lens and a light poly jacket in an "old" F2. She said it shamed the family.

First off, I lied. I have an F6 not an F10. Apologies, but here it is anyway. This is how it looked today.

Believe me, this is nowhere near 'full' by Domke standards. I could easily have included an M3 and the 35 'cron. Could have stuffed a shell in there too and a coat draped over the top. Some days it's just a camera and a single lens but usually it's somewhere between that and this.

The contents. If pressed I can skip a lot of this stuff but the F2 made it easy to include the kitchen sink, so it's now a habit. The F3x is in the back. Both of these bags are sort of a miss, and a hybrid of sorts would work better (for me). An F3x scaled to RF-sized lenses I'd buy in a minute.

Thanks for the photos! Any chance of a shot with the M and lenses in the f3x?

That's what I was hoping the f8 would be, but I think they might have scaled it too far. If the interior was an inch wider I'd buy it it a second...

Steve,

Is there any problem with the Ruggedwear coating rubbing off on clothing?

thanks,

When I first got my f10 (rugged ware) I had a mark on my pants after a while. Bear in mind I was travelling at the time, and essentially wearing the same pants for about four months, with 'minimal' washing...

Nick,

Sorry for the delay, computer problems. FYI the F3x has two internal loop pockets for lenses. It has no provision to velcro-in a 2 or 4 chamber insert. You can put one in there and let time mold it to the bag but as long as I was willing to try that it didn't work too well. I think the F3x doesn't stick out from the hip as far as my F6 does.
