M7 shutter dial detents

Recommended Posts

There is no such detent on my M7.

It's worth bearing in mind that, on moving from 125 to 250, the highest mechanical speed is disengaged and electronic is re-engaged. In other words there are switching mechanics involved moving between the speeds; electronically controlled vs. mechanically controlled (in the absence of battery power) 1/60 and 1/125.

I say there's no such detent on mine, but I can feel the underlying mechanics in the feel of the dial. Smooth movement across most speeds but a certain, ever so slightly rougher feel going from 1/125 to 1/250 and back. No sticking and no detent but it is a subtly different feel.

I didn't mean to submit that at that point!

I'd say that, if the detent is as strong as the true detents for marked speeds, I'd check to make sure the dial isn't mis-aligned to what's going on underneath. I guess in this case you'd be missing a detent somewhere around the dial, where one should be for a marked speed.

Otherwise, and if set speeds check out OK, I wouldn't worry about it. It would probably be the aforementioned mechanics having slight resistance at a certain point in their movement.

The only reference to different feeling shutter speed clicks from the manual.

Note: The click-stops for the electronic and mechanical shutter speeds differ distinctively when engaging, i.e. between the "(flash symbol)" and 1/60s or 1/125s and 1/2150s positions. This is determined by mechanical adjustment of a lever and is therefore normal.

"1/2150s" is a typo in the manual. It should read 1/250th.
