Leica M6 Problem

Hi there,

I'm new to the forum but already have a question:

I have a Leica M6 which behaves strangely with 50 mm lenses. I have a Nokton 35 1.4 which works flawlessly, but when I attach a 50 mm lens like the Nokton 50 1.5, the rangefinder gets no contact (how to say, I didn't know the english word?). The rangefinder dot is not yellow and it's like "there is no lens". If I detach the lens again and attach it more rigid, it works. Sometimes this also happen, when the lens is already attached. It's no major fault, but it's unnerving... If you want to capture a scene quickly and you have to detach and attach the lens again.

Any ideas?

Best regards,

Robert

I was going to suggest the frame lines mechanism may have problems (the squares for each lens in the rangefinder window), but if you do not see the two images in the middle of the rangefinder window (the yellow dot??), then there certainly is a problem in the rangefinder mechanism.

I use a Nokton 50mm 1.5 (new ASPH) on my MP with no trouble. I wonder if it is a problem with the lens. Have you tried other 50mm lenses? Maybe visit a Leica store or friend and just try another lens? If another lens works, the Voigtlander is the problem. If not, then you may need to camera repaired...

Does that help?

Robert, it is not clear whether you are speaking of one 50mm lens or several. What I can understand is that the cam surface at the rear of the lens does not always make contact with the cam follower in the camera. The photo (of an M3, but the M6 has the same mechanism) shows the cam follower marked with a green dot. It is possible that in your camera it is too high or too low.

I think you are doing one, or both, of these things.

Putting your finger in front of the rangefinder window (not viewfinder window) as described in the link above.

Keeping your finger on the lens release button when you mount the lens. This allows the lens to over rotate on the body mount and not be seated correctly. Keep your finger off the button and allow it to click into place as you rotate it.

Thank you very much, guys!

Shame on me, I also did it. The finger thing :roll eyes:

Maybe also the lens release button thing :o

How long do I use rangefinder cameras? 3 years? Oh man!

Have a nice day and thank you again!

Robert

No harm done! I think it happened to us all one time or another. The next thing which will happen is, that the left triangle will blink. In that case, you forget to take off the cap. It happened to me this morning, when I changed a film from 400 asa to 100 asa. It was so long ago that it happened, that I forgot it..I thought the asa wheel had problems..;)
