Paul Verrips Posted September 27, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2014 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I noticed something unusual while metering my M7 in AUTO mode. During metering en pressing the shutter button, in about 1 of 5 photo's the shutter will not fire. Normally the viewfinder shows the shutter speed, but in this case it shows one of the two triangular LED's, sometimes combined with the central circular LED. Turning the camera off and on doesn't solve the problem. The only thing that works is to turn the shutter dial to the shutter speeds of 1/60s and 1/125s, which can be selected in manual mode and are additionally identified by a white line engraved next to the values. Then the shutter get's fired. I just changed new & fresh batteries before this problem, i use 4 Varta V76px. Because the M7 manual advices Duracell DL1/3N i ordered a few of them. The 4 Varta V76px were advised by the shop where i bought my batteries in Lisbon last week. My M7 has had a CLA about a few weeks ago. What can cause this problem ??? Doc Henry Posted September 27, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 27, 2014 (edited) "What can cause this problem ???" Paul I am surprised about your "4" batteries ! mine have only 2 ! the ref is : Duracell DL1/3N 3 V * (USA). I think it's the battery problem ! if you are 4 , there may be a contact problem (it must be perfect) between 4 batteries ! insufficient or no electricity to operate the two electromagnets of the shutter. DigitalHeMan Posted September 27, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 27, 2014 Two V76px are functionally equivalent to a single DL1/3N. It is the same with the M6 - you can use either combination. However, it could certainly be possible that one of the batteries needs replacing and is therefore dropping below the required voltage to operate. BennyNg Posted September 28, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 28, 2014 Do you have a battery meter to test that your batteries are still good? If you M7 fires at 1/60 and 1/125 but not others, it's usually a pretty good sign that your battery is done for. Some M7 owners have shared severe battery drain experience on their sets, personally, I have had experience of only 5 rolls from a set previously. Paul Verrips Posted September 28, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted September 28, 2014 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Today i did some tests. While my M7 was loaded with a Portra 400, the problem occurred 2 times on a roll of 36. After i finished this roll i tested the camera without a film. I fired the shutter about a hundred times in AUTO and M mode. The problem occurred 2 times out of 100. I checked if the shutter curtain was "loaded". I could see the grey spot, so the curtain was "loaded". I had to use 1/125 AND 1/60 (manual mode) to "release" the shutter. Because it doesn't seem to happen that much, i think new batteries will solve this problem. I'll keep you posted!
