Lens Suggestion

I have an M2 with Rigid 50mm Summicron and a Jupiter-12 35mm f/2.8 lens.

Recently i have been starting to think that I prefer the 35mm frame to the 50mm frame when shooting, I think th 50 seems too tight. However I don't know whether this is down to the fact that I can see what is outside the 50 frame or because it is actually too tight. the 35mm on an m2 obviously fills the viewfinder, thus i can't see anything outside of it.

So, I am trying to at least level-out the lenses so that I have a good 50 and a good 35 - I'm looking at leica for this, but i can't stretch to the prices of even 35mm summaron 3.5s.

Are there any leica mount 35mm lenses out there that are around £300?

If so, this means i could keep the sum micron!! or should i sell it ad replace with a cheap one?? ahhhh i go round in circles - anyone got any suggestions on what i should do/what you did in the situation?

thnks for your patience,

Louis

The Cosina Voigtlander (CV) 35mm f/2.5 Color Skopar is a very good lens and comes in around £300 or less on eBay. It is available in LTM or M mount and although the two have a different body style the optical elements are the same. If you can ever envisage buying a Barnack Leica with screw mount the LTM version is the one to go for and use an LTM to M adapter on it for the M2. There are no concerns about sharpness and rendering with this lens, it easily fits into a Leica system in terms of optical quality.

I agree 100% with the Color Skopar suggestion. It's a really excellent lens. It's also very small (yet with good ergonomics; there no fumbling around when using it.) Attached to the M2 it can become a truly coat pocket sized package.

You might have a hard time discerning whether an image was taken with the CV Color Skopar or a 35mm Summicron in the end. I think it's really that good of a lens.

Well in that case it sounds like I have a winner! I looked on ebay and it even has a focusing tab like the summicron!!!

Thanks very much for your suggestion. Both of you
