Flash with auto for my M2

Okay I'm feeling very overwhelmed by the idea of flash on my m2. There so much to take into account but I feel that here is the best place to get a simple answer and a few suggestions.

I have an M2 which obviously doesn't have a hotshoe, it has a cold shoe. So a flash sync lead is needed I assume.

I like the way the Leica SF24D worked on an m8 I tried. On aperture priority it seemed very usable. I set the ISO and aperture and it determines the power based on subject distance!! Perfect! But I can't use that on my m2 due to lack of sync lead.

So please help me out with a few suggestions of flashes similar to the sf24d's shape and size and function for my m2.

Sorry if I haven't given enough information but I'm very confused and I just want some nice atmospherics shots for cold shoe mounted flash shooting!

Thanks for you patience.

Louis

Get one of these. (Picture here) which slides into the cold shoe, and a simple flash cord.

Okay this sounds good - could you possibly direct me to a shop link, like B&H eg.?

But also, is this really the only way i can use ANY FLASH with an auto setting on it? surely there must be a more simple method!!

Cheers,

Louis

What is more simple than that ??? You don´t have wireless flash- control with an M2 ...

Okay thanks for that, that's great. And this is why I mean, I don't need wireless flash!! I'm happy to use a flash where it only has a sync lead like back in the day! My m2 has a cold shoe, so surely there are flashes with auto mode that connect only via sync lead, and just sit in the cold shoe!?

You can use for e.g. a Metz 32 CT 3 with a Metz Sync- cord, which fits in a connector at the flash-socket.

I also have a Nikon SB-28 which can be directly connected via snc-cable and used in A-Mode

But most flashes are using the hot shoe-contact.

That sounds perfect. And it lookalike the three 'A' modes are for different apertures. Would this mean it determines the flash output based on distance from subject like expected?

If so are there anymore options just like this? As a Leica user it's also a bonus if the flash looks nice too ;-) something similar looking in shape to the sf24 (btw, I do not need bounce abilities, I would be using it straight on the subject at all times)

Thank you very much

The "Auto"- Flashes are measuring the reflected light with a photocell and stop the flash, if it´s enough, based on your aperture and ISO- settings.

There are a lot of flashes wich you can use, but the Metz Flashes work very well and are really cheap to get.

I also use a sunpak PF20XD, which is very small and works very well.

Thanks for your patience with this but I think we are getting there now.

Okay so what metz flashes would you recomend that are small compact, and ***have a sync lead ability***?

And the sunpak one looks very fun. Does that come with the comparability for a sync lead?

Thanks

Metz 34 CS2, Metz 36 C-2 directly with the Metz Cord 15-50".

And the SCA 300- Flashes (like Metz 32 CT 3,, where you can mount different sockets for different

camerabrands using dedicated ttl-flash. So the SCA-301 socket is the right one, as shown here:

Metz SCA 301 | Zubehör für Blitzgeräte | Foto & Video | Telco-Tec

You can see the hole on the side, to put the connecing cable in.

this is the cable (Metz 15-50)

Metz Standard-Synchronkabel 15-50 | eBay

Gee whiz, that's exactly what Fotoklaus pointed out to you. Click on his link and order it.

Here it is again: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/89982-REG/Hama_HA_6952_Hot_Shoe_Adapter_2.html

So get the Adapter and the sunpak. I think, this would be the smallest solution with the best results.

You can use the Sunpak also as a slave- flash for other solutions.

Some of the other small flashes use Lithium- batteries, the sunpak accepts normal

batteries.
