barjohn Posted November 18, 2014 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm surprised that there doesn't appear to be much interest in the $750 discount on the M Type 240 or the $250 discount on M lenses. Advertisement Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Hi barjohn, Take a look here No Discussion on the $750 Discount on M's?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
250swb Posted November 18, 2014 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2014 Last effort to sell cameras before the Monochrom version of the M distracts all the attention from the core camera and before the M240 is replaced next year. Steve
jaapv Posted November 18, 2014 Share #3 Posted November 18, 2014 It sounds more like a correction for the $ increasing in strength to me.
lm_user Posted November 18, 2014 Share #4 Posted November 18, 2014 It sounds more like a correction for the $ increasing in strength to me. The program ends on Jan 31st. Perhaps Leica expects the dollar to be weaker in a few months? Or - perhaps Leica has more supply than demand at the moment?

jaapv Posted November 18, 2014 Share #6 Posted November 18, 2014 The program ends on Jan 31st. Perhaps Leica expects the dollar to be weaker in a few months? Or - perhaps Leica has more supply than demand at the moment? Or will implement another promotion after the holiday season? All speculation. The dollar argument stems from the reduction being limited to the USA.
lm_user Posted November 18, 2014 Share #7 Posted November 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Or will implement another promotion after the holiday season? All speculation. The dollar argument stems from the reduction being limited to the USA. 2-3 months ago Leica raised the price in the US. Approx $250 with messages encouraging purchases before it is too late. Now they are offering a $750 rebate on the camera. Seems odd to me Perhaps Leica is gathering data for price vs demand in preparation for pricing the next model? The US warranty is not transferable - perhaps thus gives the flexibility to lower prices in the US without creating an arbitrage opportunity for people in other markets? jaapv Posted November 18, 2014 Share #8 Posted November 18, 2014 No - the USA warranty is not transferable, but the Leica factory guaranty is - and is worldwide including the USA. So it is just an inconvenience in having your gear sent to Wetzlar instead of to NewJersey.
bocaburger Posted November 18, 2014 Share #9 Posted November 18, 2014 2-3 months ago Leica raised the price in the US. Approx $250 with messages encouraging purchases before it is too late. Now they are offering a $750 rebate on the camera. Seems odd to me Leica raised prices on the M240 at the same time they brought out the M-P with sapphire glass and frame preview for another $700. It would seem odd to me if sales of the M240 didn't constrict.
bocaburger Posted November 18, 2014 Share #10 Posted November 18, 2014 It sounds more like a correction for the $ increasing in strength to me. If it was an adjustment for currency exchange rates I would expect it to be applied across the entire product range. This sounds like an overstock inventory reduction. barjohn Posted November 18, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted November 18, 2014 Did they raise the prices on the lenses so they could offer a discount during the holidays and still get full price?
Bob Tilton Posted November 18, 2014 Share #12 Posted November 18, 2014 That's a decent price drop. Was quoted $5800 for a mint pre-owned 240 from well respected vendor. I presume the pre-owned market will drop accordingly.
bocaburger Posted November 18, 2014 Share #13 Posted November 18, 2014 I paid $5900 from a well-respected authorized dealer for a truly mint not-pre-owned demo with a full 2 yr factory warranty. That was 2 months ago before either the price raise or the current price drop.
lm_user Posted November 18, 2014 Share #14 Posted November 18, 2014 Did they raise the prices on the lenses so they could offer a discount during the holidays and still get full price? No - i think it is a legit sale on lenses
edwardkaraa Posted November 19, 2014 Share #15 Posted November 19, 2014 I think it's just that Leica increased their production capacity so they will start to behave like other mainstream manufacturers, a good thing if you ask me.
seekwul Posted November 19, 2014 Share #16 Posted November 19, 2014 Anyone have any idea if the $750 discount is/will be extended to the M-P Typ 240 ? That would be nice....
getiton Posted November 19, 2014 Share #17 Posted November 19, 2014 Not applicable to M-P.
ndh_0611 Posted November 20, 2014 Share #18 Posted November 20, 2014 Do you think Leica reduce M240 Price in UK?. Im considering to get an M240 but this huge promotion in US make me wonder...
pico Posted November 20, 2014 Share #19 Posted November 20, 2014 The program ends on Jan 31st. Perhaps Leica expects the dollar to be weaker in a few months? January 31st is the end of the German fiscal year.
algrove Posted November 23, 2014 Share #20 Posted November 23, 2014 Every Leica dealer I know is too full of M240 and they are not selling them like before when it was newer. Stocks are too high.
