I'm surprised that there doesn't appear to be much interest in the $750 discount on the M Type 240 or the $250 discount on M lenses.

2-3 months ago Leica raised the price in the US. Approx $250 with messages encouraging purchases before it is too late. Now they are offering a $750 rebate on the camera. Seems odd to me

 

Perhaps Leica is gathering data for price vs demand in preparation for pricing the next model?

 

The US warranty is not transferable - perhaps thus gives the flexibility to lower prices in the US without creating an arbitrage opportunity for people in other markets?

No - the USA warranty is not transferable, but the Leica factory guaranty is - and is worldwide including the USA. So it is just an inconvenience in having your gear sent to Wetzlar instead of to NewJersey.

Leica raised prices on the M240 at the same time they brought out the M-P with sapphire glass and frame preview for another $700. It would seem odd to me if sales of the M240 didn't constrict.

If it was an adjustment for currency exchange rates I would expect it to be applied across the entire product range. This sounds like an overstock inventory reduction.

That's a decent price drop. Was quoted $5800 for a mint pre-owned 240 from well respected vendor. I presume the pre-owned market will drop accordingly.

I paid $5900 from a well-respected authorized dealer for a truly mint not-pre-owned demo with a full 2 yr factory warranty. That was 2 months ago before either the price raise or the current price drop.

No - i think it is a legit sale on lenses

I think it's just that Leica increased their production capacity so they will start to behave like other mainstream manufacturers, a good thing if you ask me.

Every Leica dealer I know is too full of M240 and they are not selling them like before when it was newer. Stocks are too high.
