Hakku Posted August 22, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 22, 2014 How to control menu settings? Most unlikely imho. H.
wattsy Posted August 22, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 22, 2014 I was told something similar by a Leica employee a month or so ago – not necessarily without an LCD but a more stripped down ("thinner" was one of the the specific words used) M that is more in tune with the traditional M gestalt.
marknorton Posted August 22, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 22, 2014 It would certainly be possible, if not especially convenient, to do everything you need to though an EVF, focussing and framing, menu settings, image review. If the camera could return to the thickness of an M7, how good would that be? One step further, the EVF in the T is a huge improvement on the M clunker version, so imagine too if that was to replace the rangefinder and be built into the camera. wattsy Posted August 22, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 22, 2014 It would certainly be possible, if not especially convenient, to do everything you need to though an EVF, focussing and framing, menu settings, image review. I was told that it wouldn't have an EVF or any other gizmos. All such a camera would need is a top-plate LCD that is a little more informative than the one on the M8. With ISO selector on the back and RAW files only, the only thing you might need a button for is to format the card (which would not be dissimilar to how you can format a card on a Nikon). If the top plate also showed a histogram for the shot just made, you've got everything you might need from a digital camera.

Peter H Posted August 22, 2014 Share #7 Posted August 22, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I honestly can't see any real advantage in getting rid of the big, clear, helpful LCD unless you want to pretend you're using a film camera without actually having to use a film camera.
Popular Post honcho Posted August 22, 2014 Popular Post Share #8 Posted August 22, 2014 I heard a rumour about a month ago that the lcd is going to be replaced by a very large screw.
pop Posted August 22, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 22, 2014 It will also have a film advance lever and a rewind knob, but only if seen from the back, and the new connector for the EVF will look like a flash cable socket.
Mike Rawcs Posted August 22, 2014 Share #10 Posted August 22, 2014 I'd love to see a full-frame digital M the size of a film M. I'd be perfectly happy to have a DNG-only camera with just a shutter dial on the body and aperture set on the lens. ISO set by a dial on the back, just like a film M.

IWC Doppel Posted August 22, 2014 Share #12 Posted August 22, 2014 I wonder if it will be CMOS or CCD if it's real if course
luigi bertolotti Posted August 22, 2014 Share #13 Posted August 22, 2014 Imho, a LCDless M has sense only as a special edition... but it wouldn't be economical to design and engineer a slimmer body just for this... so, I tend to think is a rumor and no much more.

Chito Posted August 22, 2014 Share #16 Posted August 22, 2014 Leica have an App for that... I was thinking that this was a weird idea, but maybe it has WiFi and it connects to an Android/iOS device then maybe it's not a such a strange idea after all. We all carry these devices anyway, menu changes, image review, etc, etc all done on your secondary screen. If it makes the camera considerably thinner I might consider it.
Peter H Posted August 22, 2014 Share #17 Posted August 22, 2014 Love the idea, Why?
horosu Posted August 22, 2014 Share #18 Posted August 22, 2014 Why? Because a stripped down, 24 MP digital camera, the size of a MP would represent, IMHO, everything that Leica stood for: simplicity, reliability and ease of use. I would absolutely LOVE that, and THIS camera would be a milestone, for me, which would entice me to search my pockets deep

horosu Posted August 22, 2014 Share #20 Posted August 22, 2014 A digital camera without a screen is like a toilet without a seat. You can use it but why would you want to ... Because you want a digital output, not a screen for chimping, right?
