CheshireCat Posted March 12, 2015 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does Leica have plans to sell the 28 Lux without a camera attached ? If not, what are the alternatives for f/2 or less ? I have ruled out the Summicron f/2 (not impressed for the price - gut feelings). I don't mind size and weight. Just great colors and decent sharpness wide open. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated.
Advertisement Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Hi CheshireCat, Take a look here 28 Lux ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
DMJ Posted March 12, 2015 Share #2 Posted March 12, 2015 Been wondering this myself. If it only comes attached to a camera then I would love to see 28mm & 35mm Apo Summicron versions - would make a nice set.
jip Posted March 12, 2015 Share #3 Posted March 12, 2015 The 28 Summicron is great, what's wrong with it?
matlep Posted March 12, 2015 Share #4 Posted March 12, 2015 The 28 Summicron is great, what's wrong with it? Agree. And used the price tag is more than reasonable.
jip Posted March 12, 2015 Share #5 Posted March 12, 2015 Bought one for 1950€ this month, 6 bit mint condition looks like new. Including box and everything from a dealer with a 1 year warranty.

mmradman Posted March 12, 2015 Share #7 Posted March 12, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Nothing wrong with Summicron but this thread is about Summilux so let's keep it on the topic. I recently part exchanged my Summicron 28mm for another lens and have no regrets letting it go. 3
CheshireCat Posted March 13, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted March 13, 2015 The 28 Summicron is great, what's wrong with it? Like I said, gut feelings, based on all the photos I have seen. And I want something faster for more subject isolation.
CheshireCat Posted March 13, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted March 13, 2015 I recently part exchanged my Summicron 28mm for another lens and have no regrets letting it go. Which other lens have you exchanged it for ?
jip Posted March 13, 2015 Share #10 Posted March 13, 2015 It doesn't look like they are releasing it as a normal lens soon, maybe because they want the collectors to feel special for a bit longer, or the lens isn't as good as it should be or too hard to manufacture? But I wonder why they chose to sell it in a kit then.
menos I M6 Posted March 13, 2015 Share #11 Posted March 13, 2015 Like I said, gut feelings, based on all the photos I have seen. And I want something faster for more subject isolation. I think the 24 Summilux is for you then. There are also from time to time nice second hand copies around.
mmradman Posted March 13, 2015 Share #12 Posted March 13, 2015 Which other lens have you exchanged it for ? Summilux 21mm, very happy with performance at max f stop but also stopped down, I also use SEM 21mm which is brilliant but on the slow side for dynamic subjects in poor light.
padam Posted March 13, 2015 Share #13 Posted March 13, 2015 There hasn't been a new M lens announcement since 2012 (the Summarits are only a minor update) and Leica stated they will expand the lens range so the 28 Summilux will be coming in "normal form" for sure. And the price will be at least two times more than the Summicron.
rirakuma Posted March 13, 2015 Share #14 Posted March 13, 2015 I think the 24 Summilux is for you then. There are also from time to time nice second hand copies around. This is what I thought as well although it would lack the oomph against a true 28/1.4 lens. I've seen some samples on LFI, you can select focal length now and choose 28 lux, it just reminds me of the 24 lux.
NB23 Posted March 13, 2015 Share #15 Posted March 13, 2015 "Gut feeling". Now this is funny. Especially when we're talking about a lens that definitely has a Leica look...
CheshireCat Posted March 14, 2015 Author Share #16 Posted March 14, 2015 I thought about the 24, but 28 would be ideal, also because it does not require an EVF for correct framing. My current wide lens is the 21 SEM. Great lens but totally different than a fast 28. What about non-Leica alternatives ?
Herr Barnack Posted March 14, 2015 Share #17 Posted March 14, 2015 (edited) Like many others, I too am looking forward to the day when the powers that be in Wetzlar at long last unfetter the Summilux 28 ASPH. This is not a 28mm, but it is well worth considering: Voigtlander Nokton Aspherical 35mm f/1.2 Lens II (Black) BA237B I had the original version of this lens and let it get away (a regrettable decision). However the verson 2 is said to be an even better lens than the original. If you use the search tool, you will find a lot of posts & information about the 35mm Nokton on this forum. Take a look at post #5 here - http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-lenses/363647-new-35mm-summarit-2-4-a.html#post2887094 Lastly, here is Camera Quest's page on the 35mm Nokton v.2: https://www.cameraquest.com/voigt3512.htm I like this lens - a lot. It will most likely be my next lens purchase. Hope this helps... Edited March 14, 2015 by Carlos Danger
semi-ambivalent Posted March 14, 2015 Share #18 Posted March 14, 2015 Like many others, I too am looking forward to the day when the powers that be in Wetzlar at long last unfetter the Summilux 28 ASPH. I can't believe Leica is not aware of the pent-up demand for this lens, and yet they tie it to a combo that will certainly have extremely small sales volume. This leads me to believe the production of this lens has issues that reduce the % that pass QC to the point that Leica is unloading them in a set while it works on a replacement design that is less costly to properly assemble. I believe the 50mm f/1.2 had a similar history, is that correct? (This is not to say the ones that do pass QC are dogs, it's to say it might be a very complex mechanical assembly, prone to mis-adjustments during manufacture.) Of course, I'm talking through my hat here but it would not be the first time it has happened. Nikon had the same problem with the original 2.8/35 released in 1958(9?) with the F. s-a
IkarusJohn Posted March 14, 2015 Share #19 Posted March 14, 2015 I have my name down for one. I hope it comes in silver chrome.
CheshireCat Posted March 14, 2015 Author Share #20 Posted March 14, 2015 This is not a 28mm, but it is well worth considering: Voigtlander Nokton Aspherical 35mm f/1.2 Lens II (Black) BA237B Thanks Carlos, I agree... So much that I have the v1 35mm is my most used focal length, but sometimes I wish it was a little wider. Hence the need for a fast 28.
