Lens for Visoflex

I bought myself a Viso III for my M8/M9. I think I will buy a Bellows II and maybe an OUAGO adapter for my 90mm lenshead.

But what else would be fun and cheap? I am thinking about a longer lens than 90mm to use for panning cars at speed. Elmarit 2,8/135 and Telyt 4/200 seams to be inexpensive (for Leica). Others?

Of course you are pretty much limited to short mount lenses. It is hard to beat the 90mm Elmarit. The 90mm Summicron (pre asph) allows the removal of the front end (some do any way) and fits on a Viso adapter. The Elmarit 135 does work quite well on the Visoflex, I don't know if all versions unscrew for Viso use from the "eyes" mount, but the Elmarit 135 was sold with eyes and also as a short mount lens. I have used both the 90mm old Summicron and the 135 Elmarit (short mount) lenses on my Viso with success. Both are more contrasty and sharper than the unbelievably bland (which is sometimes useful) 65mm Elmar. Regards, Ron

Black 65 are later, revised, and work well. I would disagree on the chrome being bland.

135 4.0 tele elmar is close to APO quality. Do not mistake the 135 4.0 plain elmar.

The three element 90 4.0 is superb, but hard to find.

Once you have the iso, 280 400 560 all open up to you. 400 and 560 will require the long tube, short is for R.

As to the Tele-Elmar, I agree. Regards, Ron

Thanks. Are the Tele-Elmar 135 that much better than the Elmarit 135? The extra weight of the Elmarit would not bother me.

I think so. My Elmarit exhibits quite some chromatic aberration. Its spectacles reduce the contrast in the RF so much that I have not been able to focus it on the M9. It's different on the M where it has become somewhat usable on account of the greater contrast in the RF. Thats, of course, moot if you intend using it on the Visoflex.

135s are definitely better used in direct mount in normal operations (even with M8 imho... ) : the lenshead of Tele Elmar 135 is EXCELLENT with bellows : one of the best macro set. For the usage you envision probably the best buy is the Telyt 200 f4 : it is not rare, not too costly, and quite usable handheld, when one has got accustomed with Viso usage : the 280s are a lot heavier and the risk of motion blur makes it, in the mean, more convenient to crop a 200 mm taken frame when needed... ;)

Hello Nordvik,

Welcome to the Forum.

Whichever lens you use don't forget an appeopriate RIGID LENS HOOD.

Rigid lens hoods can make a big difference in photographs in general. Even though at distances of 1 : 10 and further they are probably more important as a degree of protection against inadvertant impact & damage. It is less expensive to replace a lens shade than it is to replace a lens element or to repair a lens mount.

In addition to individual rigid lens hoods: At distances closer than 1 : 10 inadvertant light becomes more of an issue. When you are getting your Bellows II you might consider getting the companion Collopsable Lens Shade for closeups & the like.

Best Regards,

Michael

My favorite: Tele-Elmar 135/4

Rings, rings, rings ... to adapt different lens heads to the Bellows II.

Of course, you know the old joke.

Leitz was a ring company that also sold cameras! :D

The (unscrewable) lens cell of the 135/4 Elmar v1 (the silver one) is excellent and can either be used with the Bellows II or with the OTZFO (16464) Universal focussing mount and OTSRO (16472) tube. Using the OTRPO (16471) extension ring enables superb near focussing too.

Pete.
