SiriusLux Posted February 9, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 9, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, just wanted to check whether anyone has gotten that lens yet. I am waiting since I first ordered it beginning of September right after the introduction. The latest news my dealer told me is that Zeiss did not delivery any black ones yet - black is what I ordered. Thanks for any feedback, Joerg

kcnarf Posted February 9, 2015 Share #4 Posted February 9, 2015 What is the proper lens hood for it? Where to order? There is no info in this regard, as far as i can see.
MikeSR Posted February 10, 2015 Share #5 Posted February 10, 2015 I wanted to try one at the weekend in Japan and was told April at the earliest. Mike
jaapv Posted February 10, 2015 Share #6 Posted February 10, 2015 What is the proper lens hood for it? Where to order? There is no info in this regard, as far as i can see. All Zeiss ZM lenses have dedicated bajonet mounted hoods, which have to be ordered separately from Zeiss. Your dealer should be able to help you out. Prepare for a months-long wait. gberger Posted February 10, 2015 Share #7 Posted February 10, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) In the US, B&H originally forecast that the lens would be available on 5 February. Now they are stating "Coming soon" for both there black and silver versions. I wonder if Cosina is having manufacturing problems.
sdk Posted February 10, 2015 Share #8 Posted February 10, 2015 I wanted to try one at the weekend in Japan and was told April at the earliest. Mike I hope that's wrong, because that's ridiculous. I've had an order in since late September. Six months is a long time to wait. Why would it take so long?
apertur Posted February 10, 2015 Share #9 Posted February 10, 2015 Silver is available since a few weeks in EU. You can order online. The first black ones were also shiped my dealer told me.
pedaes Posted February 10, 2015 Share #10 Posted February 10, 2015 All Zeiss ZM lenses have dedicated bajonet mounted hoods, which have to be ordered separately from Zeiss. Your dealer should be able to help you out. Prepare for a months-long wait. It is well worth reading Sean Reids comments on the Zeiss hood. His take is that it blocks even more of the viewfinder (having already discussed the large size of the lens and how much of the viewfinder it blocks compared to the Summilux) and suggests getting a less intrusive $10 third party hood. SiriusLux Posted February 10, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted February 10, 2015 It seems it helped posting this, since in the meantime my dealer sent me a message the lens arrived. Unfortunately that was two days too late for my trip to Mumbai, however in time for skiing in Austria next week:) It'll be interesting to see how much the lens hood obstructs and check what the 10 USD online version gives. I have gotten a cheap one for my Summarit-M 2.5/90 and am happy with it. Can anyone post a link for the one potentially fitting the Distagon? Regards, Joerg
DMJ Posted February 11, 2015 Share #12 Posted February 11, 2015 My black one & hood has arrived at the dealer & I should have it on Friday. Shame Leica has my M240 for repair, so I shall just have to admire the lens.
sdk Posted February 11, 2015 Share #13 Posted February 11, 2015 I wonder if all the snowstorms in the Northeast US have slowed arrival of these lenses to B&H Photo. We've had about 6 feet of snow in Boston in the past 18 days, though I don't think NYC has had quite so much.
Gary Clennan Posted February 11, 2015 Share #14 Posted February 11, 2015 What is the proper lens hood for it? Where to order? There is no info in this regard, as far as i can see. The hood will be $159 Euro. Not sure about availability...
wattsy Posted February 12, 2015 Share #15 Posted February 12, 2015 The London dealer which is not universally popular (former authorised Leica dealer) apparently has the black version of this lens in stock. Just in case anyone is particularly keen.
jgeenen Posted February 12, 2015 Share #16 Posted February 12, 2015 I received the black one today from a German Dealer. He received shipment from Zeiss beginning of the week. Original hoods are on back order, I am using a metal vented hood with 49mm mount bought on ebay (as recommended by Sean Reid) - no vignetting. First snaps look promising - focus seems to be spot on. Interesting - my first Leica lens with internal focussing, no barrel moves while focussing (the rear element does) Johannes

DMJ Posted February 13, 2015 Share #18 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) Well my black version has arrived, but no camera to use it on. Lens is well built & feels solid. Very smooth dials & feels like the 50mm Apo-Summicron in this respect. The lens hood looks nice & of similar design/size to their other ZM ones. Certainly this hood is way over priced for what it is. Interestingly the writing on the hood has changed to 'Zeiss' from 'Carl Zeiss' (as on my other lenses) - big deal, but someone might be interested. Will take some pictures once Leica returns the M240. Mine came from Dale Photographic in Leeds. Always found them helpful. My black one & hood has arrived at the dealer & I should have it on Friday. Shame Leica has my M240 for repair, so I shall just have to admire the lens. Edited February 13, 2015 by DMJ
SiriusLux Posted February 13, 2015 Author Share #19 Posted February 13, 2015 Finally got my black Distagon 1.4/35ZM, it includes the hood as well which is similar to the other Zeiss ZM hoods I have, i.e. solid as a rock compared to the Leica standard hoods. The focus ring as well as the f-stop ring turn in a silky way, no play whatsoever. The only negative thing is that using it on my M240 gets me backfocus, I need to investigate if it's the camera or the lens. It could be the camera, as it is now 12000 clicks and 18 months old and has followed me on various trips. Interestingly in general terms these hoods cost only about 2/3 in Japan, compared to Europe, I should buy a new one for my Biogon 2.0/35 next time I come to Japan, and maybe the new version of the CV Super-Heliar 4.5/15 will be available then...
