Leicabuff Posted February 1, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, This is my first post and I am new to Leica. A few month ago I picked up a Leica M-P and the WATE with it. I like to use filters to protect the front element. There is the optional filter holder which takes 67mm filters. That makes the lens BIG. I decided to get the filter holder, the UV-IF filter and a 67mm lens cap, then I noticed what about the lens shade for 67mm? Does anyone know any fitting lens shade solution for the filter holder? Cheers Jay P.S. I just noticed there is German forum and American forum. Not sure on which one I am. I also appreciate any answer in German. I speak German too. Edited February 1, 2015 by Leicabuff
Advertisement Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Hi Leicabuff, Take a look here Leica 16-18-21mm WATE filter holder with lens shade. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Berlinman Posted February 1, 2015 Share #2 Posted February 1, 2015 Hi Jay, welcome to the forum. I use the WATE a lot and I use it with the filter holder and UV-Filter. I remove the filter only for nightfotos or if I have problems in direct sunlight. For me it works without hood and shade.
Leicabuff Posted February 1, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted February 1, 2015 Hi Berlinman, Thanks for the reply. That is a good solution. So take off the filter holder and put back the original lens shade when shooting against the sun light. Cheers
flyalf Posted February 3, 2015 Share #4 Posted February 3, 2015 Hi Leicabuff, and welcome Imo the standard metall hood is a better protection than a filter. Its quite sturdy, and have saved my lens once when the camera + tripod fell forward. Im not sure that a filter would have done the same. The filter is a good protection towards particles, dust and water. I belive its a bad idea to use the WATE without lens hood since the front lens element is protuding and quite exposed. I use a thin pola filter on the filter adapter, and have an old Nikon metal wide hood that I use by an step-up ring. The hood gives only marginal flare protection, so its more to have mechanical protection.
Leicabuff Posted February 7, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted February 7, 2015 Hi Flyalf, Thanks for your thoughts. For sure the lens hood is a better protection than the filter alone, that is why I asked the question. I will look into a generic and sturdy lens hood for the filter. Michael Geschlecht Posted February 10, 2015 Share #6 Posted February 10, 2015 (edited) Hello Jay, Welcome to the Forum. Many people write in both the German Forum & the English Forum. You should feel free to read & write in the 1 you want to whenever you want. Some people write a similar version of the same thing & Post it in both Forums simultaneously when it suits them. Altho they share many things in common, the 2 Forums do not overlap completely & in some ways they do have their differences. Enjoy. Best Regards, Michael.
