15mm Voigtlander Heliar on MM

Anyone using the 15mm Voigtlander Heliar on a Monochrom? Any issues?

Hi Wilfredo

I use it on my M8 and Fuji XE-1.

A truly excellent lens. Gorgeously small, range focuses to <0.5m. Just set distance and shoot like point and shoot. No need to use viewfinder on the camera or an adjunct finder. I commonly point the camera to subjects 0.3m estimated...dead sharp images.

I think it's a sensational lens, v sharp throughout, and one of the better VC's I have for my M8.(the VC 35mm f1.4 is pretty crap in the corners, for example). I also have the VC 21mm f4.

And not expensive; mine about US$400, mint.

All best, and cheers Dave S :)

Thanks Dave. I no longer have the M8 and some have complained about vignetting on the M9 hence I'm wondering about it on the MM? From the lack of response here it may not be a good match for the MM? I would love to hear from others.

I have used the 15/4,5 Heliar on both M9 and M. It is one of my favourite Lenses!! You get one side coloured, Italian flagg (more on M than on M9) but that is easily corrected with Flat Field in Lightroom, and should btw present no problem at all on an MM. I have just recently bought an SEM 18 and have difficulties in demonstrating the differences, one might be that the Heliar is somewhat softer in the corners. I get some chromatic aberration also, which, so far, I haven't seen on the SEM. I highly recommend the Heliar - you will have fun with this lens!!

I use it on my MM without any problems, vignetting is not an issue. I code it as 11834 out of habit as this seems to be best when I use it on my M240. Here is one example:

I think there now are three versions of the Heliar (I might bee wrong): the first version without connection to the rangefinder, the second (which I have) with connected rangefinder and the new third version that was presented at the Photokina this autumn, which is rumoured to deal with the colour edges problem.

I have had mine (a screw mount) sitting around for about 10 years -don't know why I never got round to putting it on my M8. I guess I didn't like it with the 21mm so I never bothered wider. Reading this thread I popped it on, and took a picture of my kitchen (it is night time). The results were great.

Tomorrow I will try it on my M for B&W.

I used to have the 12mm too and sold it for a pittance. Shame, it would be nice to try it again. The only M lens I have sold apart from my MATE v1.

On a side note, it reaffirms my view not to ever sell an M lens unless I need the money. I was thinking of trading my 21mm and Noctilux for a WATE, and this experience has returned me to sanity. I might buy a WATE or, more probably, I might not, but I will not sell ....never sell an M lens ...

Just forgot - I think the finder from Voigtländer, the 15mm, is quite decent, the feel is more "plastic" than Leicas finders, but very much cheaper. It works very well showing the actual frame/picture well, I recommend that. But for my new M I don´t need it....the EFV solves everything.

I "handcoded" my Heliar as "21mm" with a pen - this worked very well on my M9 - but not on the M, I don´t understand why, the coding-reading system on the M seems to be more "sensitive"....?

Just +0.52EV for vignetting in C1, nu further dramatic corrections other than what I would have done with any other lens.

Don't think I used the finder either, I took 5 shots of this scene before I was satisfied. I used no lens detection.

Questions? Not me

The version III is supposed to help with color shift and I believe will be available early next year. Here is a link to CameraQuest as they are taking deposits:
