marcbo Posted September 20, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 20, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Last week I used my 50 mm apo on a daily basis and to my surprise I noticed afterwards that on certain days LR5 didn't recognize that particular lens although it continued to recognize all the other lenses I used. On most other days it continued to recognize that particular lens. Any reason for that? I guess no need to worry though?

On most other days it continued to recognize that particular lens. Any reason for that? I guess no need to worry though? Hit the Info button on the camera now and then so see if the camera is detecting the lens. If Lightroom doesn't reckognize the lens it's most probably because the camera didn't reckognize it in the first place. Many people have had similar problems.. The sensors sometimes doesn't detect a specific lens on the camera. A friend of mine has that problem on a M240 and with a Noctilux 0.95. But it doesn't happen with his APO 50/2. Wipe off the 6-bit encoding on the lens and see if that helps.
250swb Posted September 21, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 21, 2014 Also make sure the lens snaps into place on the mount, so for instance don't hold the release button in while mounting it which some people do by mistake. Steve
thighslapper Posted September 21, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 21, 2014 Some M240's have a problem with actuator alignment that toggles the framelines and at the same time allows identification of the lens. Only happens with 50/75 lenses ....... I have intermittent problems with Nocti, 75/2 and 50 apo. Usually solved by making sure you attach the lens and rotate fully till you get a firm click. If it doesn't, no amount of fiddling will get it to register .... you have to disengage the lens and try again. Leica will no doubt adjust it for you ...... but it will mean the camera making a round trip to Wetzlar. nb ...... for the uninitiated ....... Leica lenses have slight differences on the leading edge of the flange ...... the 'pointy bit' you can see ...... this projection varies by a couple of millimetres depending on focal length pair ...... 28/90, 35/135, 50/75. When the lens clicks in place this projection pushes an actuator that changes the masks for the framelines in the viewfinder assembly...... and also moves a little 3 position toggle switch which electronically tells the camera which pair is selected. Lens recognition involves both the six bit coding pits PLUS this information ...... and if the result is not in the look-up table in the firmware it registers as 'not recognised'.
marcbo Posted September 21, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted September 21, 2014 thanks for the replies. Yes indeed the 50 apo does not always engage properly on the 240. That must be it
