freitz Posted September 18, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking for a ND Filter to work with the Summilux FLE 35 1.4 to shoot wide open mid day. Would you recommend a 2 or 3 stop filter? Thanks for the help.
Advertisement Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Hi freitz, Take a look here Summilux FLE 35 with ND Filter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mmradman Posted September 18, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2014 Only sensible advice i can give you is to buy 46mm filter, either Heliopan or B&W are good quality. You can also use polarising filter that provides you double benefit of polarisation effect and shaving off 1 to 2 stops. As for number of stops only you can answer that. John McMaster Posted September 18, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 18, 2014 3 stop is usually enough, very bright sunshine might need a 6 stop john
Bill W Posted September 18, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2014 I have a 6 stop ND for my Noctilux and it is almost totally dark. Three stops would be adequate I think.
MarkP Posted September 18, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 18, 2014 I have 3 stop B+W ND filters which have been ideal for using faster lenses opened up - fine in the bright glare of Australian summer sunlight. 2 stops is not quite enough. fotofool Posted September 19, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 19, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have use the three stop B+W ND filter linked above by Indergaard for that lens. I also have the Heliopan linear polarizing filter. I prefer B+W's optical quality but went for the Heliopan since B+W seems to be only making circular polarizers now and have been very happy with it. Honestly, in all but the brightest conditions the polarizer is enough to allow me to shoot wide open. I rarely put the ND filter on.
freitz Posted September 19, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted September 19, 2014 Interesting perspective. Anyone have a link to the recommend polarizer?

Quan Posted September 19, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 19, 2014 I am looking for a ND Filter to work with the Summilux FLE 35 1.4 to shoot wide open mid day. Would you recommend a 2 or 3 stop filter? Thanks for the help. I use Heliopan variable ND (0-10 stops) very handy as you don't need to take it out when you move from a bright place to a dimmer indoor, just turn it to zero here one of my work at 4 stops, hope this help Nannie by john_kuan, on Flickr
freitz Posted September 19, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted September 19, 2014 Seems like the correct answer is to get a 3 stop filter and a polarizer and see which works best.
freitz Posted September 25, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted September 25, 2014 Heliopan ND filters Vs. BW Do the Heliopan filters work with the 35 MM Summilux FLE hood? I know the B+W ones work but not sure about the Heliopan.
wattsy Posted September 25, 2014 Share #13 Posted September 25, 2014 Heliopan SH-PMC filters work fine with the current FLE hood. The limiting factor in filter/hood problems with this lens was with the hood on early examples of this lens back in 2010. It isn't officially documented but there is sufficient anecdotal evidence that Leica quietly changed the hood specs shortly after the lens was launched to make it more compatible with filters. tthorne Posted September 27, 2014 Share #14 Posted September 27, 2014 I like the Heliopan variable. First variable ND I have ever given the thumbs up. I now use it on the .95 Noctilux, 35FLE, and 50Lux.
algrove Posted October 3, 2014 Share #15 Posted October 3, 2014 My view is if Leica contracted for Heliopan to make a special run of 46 and 60mm 10 stop VND filters that's good enough for me. Works like a charm.

Works like a charm. Do the Heliopan's work with the 35 FLE ASPH with the rectangle hood?

Mr. Thompson Posted October 14, 2014 Share #18 Posted October 14, 2014 Are you able to use it with the hood on the FLE? The Slim Heliopan ES 46 variable ND filter does fit the FLE but you will not be able to attach the hood.
