Photos shot with Leica M240 on a tripod at f/11. The second with a wider view of course is the 18mm. –Eric Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Hi ericborgstrom, Take a look here Mandler 19mm-R ver. I and Karbe 18 mm-M. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
k-hawinkler Posted August 27, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 27, 2014 Thanks Eric. What is the point you are making? Both images look fine to me on my iPad.
ericborgstrom Posted August 27, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted August 27, 2014 That is also my conclusion. You need to print realy large to see much of a difference at f/11. But the older lens has unsharp corners at f/2.8. The Karbe lens is much better at full aperture. –Eric

pgk Posted August 27, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 27, 2014 My 19mm suffered from severe flare if pointed anywhere towards the light. I have the 21mm SEM which is amazingly flare resistant as is the 18mm I'd guess.
Peter Branch Posted August 28, 2014 Share #6 Posted August 28, 2014 My 19mm suffered from severe flare if pointed anywhere towards the light. I have the 21mm SEM which is amazingly flare resistant as is the 18mm I'd guess. It also has an "interesting" distortion profile. Not visible in the pictures shown but for architecture the 18mm wins hands down - especially if the ACR profile for the 18mm is applied - distortion is then in the process lens class. Erik Gunst Lund Posted August 28, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 28, 2014 .... The second with a wider view of course is the 18mm. –Eric Is the 18mm wider than the 19mm? The upper right corner in the first one seems,,, very bad af f/11 IMHO
Peter Branch Posted August 28, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 28, 2014 Is the 18mm wider than the 19mm? The upper right corner in the first one seems,,, very bad af f/11 IMHO One of the issues that Leica had to address was the fact that legally, at least in the UK, it was not a 19mm lens. They took, most unusually, to quoting the diagonal field of view, 97.5 degrees. This implies a focal length greater than 19.5 mm and hence it should have been described as a 20mm lens. I believe it was actually 19.7 mm. The 18mm is actually 18.3 mm.

Was this R-lens corrected in the camera too? Jan
ericborgstrom Posted August 28, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted August 28, 2014 Is the 18mm wider than the 19mm? The upper right corner in the first one seems,,, very bad af f/11 IMHO The upper right corner is nearly 1 km away. The rocks 1m. Even at f/11 I did not get it all in focus. –Eric
ericborgstrom Posted August 28, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted August 28, 2014 You mean the vignetting? In lightroom profiles for both lenses were used. –Eric
