Missing serial number for summilux 50mm asph?

So I just called Leica in order to get a replacement screw for the lens hood for my silver Summilux-m 1.4 50mm ASPH and they asked for my serial number. Oddly, it does not appear on the lens anywhere. I had to go dig out its original box (purchased last year from a dealer) in order to find it.

 

Is this normal?

No. On my black lens the markings are in your last image. Yours seem to be missing. Weird, no?

 

What are the first 4 digits of the SN#?

You are missing the ring that identifies the lens, gives the filter size and the serial number. Mine is a 11891 the black version. I can take a picture if needed. Did you buy the lens new?

I would contact the dealer and have them send it back to Leica. If you were ever to try and sell it, you would have difficulty. I am guessing Leica can at least assign a new serial number to it.

The front ring with s/n and other writings is rather easy to be unscrewed off... but I suppose your lens has been always like this, and is definitely a problem to be solved : btw, it's very strange that this absence wasn't noticed at the time of buying... at least by the dealer...

Could it come loose and got lost unnoticed? If you don´t use your gear a lot you might

not realize a slightly different appearance.

 

The receipt should show the number, taken when it was there.

...seems the OP has an unmentioned issue (within this thread, that is) with the front end of the lens.
