Fgrogorio2222 Posted July 24, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 24, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Flange screws on my 35 Cromwell asph got loose as I was taking the lens off. One was totally loose, fell out and dropped out of sight. I have not been able to find it. Can I buy one somewhere or do I need to take it to a shop? I re-tightened the other screws, and now the focus ring binds a bit... Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!
Advertisement Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Hi Fgrogorio2222, Take a look here 35mm summicron flange screw missing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted July 24, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 24, 2014 That's an odd problem... I can't imagine why the flange screws can get loose : had the lens been maintained in its recent past ? Or... is by cance a 3rd party flange ? (they are uncommon, for having the 6 bit at a decent cost) . Anyway, the flange is a critical surface : must be perfectly planar and its screws tightened as evenly as possible : I'd suggest a visit to a lab, who probably can have an original screw and make the job at once. 250swb Posted July 24, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 24, 2014 It would be great to be able to tell you where to buy a replacement screw, but sorry, other than a repairer I don't know. And repairers are justifiably loath to sell you just the screw. But the fact your focus ring is now binding is symptomatic of the flange not being properly centred due to the lack of the screw. andybarton Posted July 24, 2014 Share #4 Posted July 24, 2014 If you call Leica CS in Wetzlar, they will probably just send you a new screw.
Fgrogorio2222 Posted July 25, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted July 25, 2014 Thank you for your advice! I bought it used but in excellent condition. I, too, am surprised why the screws got loose. But I now tightened them and all is fine when it's back on the M. Even the focus tab has only a very slight binding. I can live with that. A camera shop told me to ask Leica Repair in NJ to send me the screw replacement. I'll try that. But the camera works fine again! Here's the proof. Thank you. Fgrogorio2222 Posted July 25, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted July 25, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you! I'll try the Leica Repair in NJ first. I've tightened the screws and the focus binding is almost gone once the lens is on the camera. Here's some proof:
