Hilarious, Erick. At least we know that there is an "I love my..." thread waiting for it when it arrives. Like a crib waiting for a new baby to arrive home :)
I'd really like to get that 28mm :p Edited by erick

I wonder whether some of the qualities that make the 28 Summicron one of the best-loved and most admired of all Leica lenses might be lost, or at least altered, in a 1.4 version.

Of course it may be exactly the same but a stop faster. But it might have quite a different look. Or it may be nicer all round, which is difficult to imagine, though not impossible I suppose.

I'm interested but as with most lenses, surely the image characteristics are going to be a very important part of any decision to swap from Summicron to Summilux aren't they?

they are for me. My expectation is that it will render much like the 35mm lux asph fle, but that's just a hunch

I read the Sean Read`s test of the Summilux 28, where he also compared it to the Summicron 28. The Summilux performed a lot better than the Summicron, so much so that he asked the question if the particular Summicron 28mm he used for the test was a poor performer.

Actually I have a 21 SE and a 35 Summilux, I don't want to loose 1.4 possibilities

Of course I shall wait for reviews and tests before selling my 21 an d35 to get it

I used to rely on a 28/50mm, but since I bought my incredibly wonderful 24 Elmar, I haven't used my 28 Summicron.

I'm now wondering whether I need 28mm at all, since I'm finding the 24/3.8 and 35/1.4 such a nice combination. So maybe it's now 24/35 instead of 28/50 for me.

Whereas some people get wiser, I'm getting wider as I get older. In more ways than one!

That was the right question given how poor the images looked from the 28 Summicron. Given outside of the 50 APO how much better the Smmicron's MTF's curves are than anything shorter than 75mm in the line up I think I know the answer......

my 28 summicron is an excellent performer so much so that for once I won't be jumping at the chance for the extra stop.

Does anyone know what the size and weight difference are with the new 28 summilux?

because I certainly would not want a bulkier lens than my 28 summicron which is pretty weighty anyway
