Code for Tele Elmar 135mm?

Hi there, quick enquiry. I've tried the search function with no results but is there a 6bit code for the Tele Elmar 135mm f4. I see there are codes for the Apo 135 f3.4 and the 135mm f2.8. Thanks. Regards Robin.

There isn't one.

 

You can code it as the APO 135 f3.4 so that at least it shows in the EXIF as a 135mm lens.

They can’t as there is no code for the lens. Coding as 135 APO will not show up in EXIF because it brings up the 90 mm framelines. You have to adapt the mount as well.

135 APO brings the 135 frame lines and is codeable

 

135 Elmarit (goggles) brings up the 90 frame lines and is codeable

 

135 Tele Elmar brings up the 135 frame lines and is not codeable.

 

Until the M240, Leica didn't recommend the 135 focal length, hence the goggles on the Elmarit, and the 90mm frame lines. They code it as a 90. It was only with the M240 they started to code the APO.

I forgot to mention that you have to use the 28 /90 lens mount as well. :o

Ok, I'm lost here, what 135 APO uses the 28/90 mount? Mine doesn't. My 135 Elmarit does.

 

My apologies for not being clearer.

 

When i had my 135 Tele-Elmar-M coded as the APO-Telyt-M for the information to show in the EXIF info the lens mount had to be changed from the original 35/135 lens mount that is standard on the lens to the 28/90 lens mount.

Sorry, I am none the wiser. Why would a 28/90 lens mount be required for information to show in the EXIF info, is this a design mistake with the camera's 6-bit coding of 135mm lenses?

The reason for the change of mount is that the camera not only looks at the coding but also checks which mount / frame lines are activated.

Okay, but that thread is for an M8. On an M9, ME or Monochrom does the lens not bring up the 35/135 framelines and why therefore cannot it not simply be coded as 135 f/3.4 APO 11889? If Leica would not do this, perhaps an independent technician could add the 135 APO codes to a 135 Tele-Elmar lens.

It does not matter which Leica body you use.

 

The lens flange, whichever one is fitted, will actuate the same frame lines regardless of which body you use, whether they are the 28/90 ; 35/135 or 50/75 frame lines.

 

Therefore dependant upon which lens flange is fitted to the particular lens you are coding, and that what that coding is, the camera will identify the lens by both the flange it sees and the coding on that flange and show that in the EXIF info.

He can, but it would need to be offset, so you can overrotate the lens.

So does one have to overrotate the lens if it is an 135 f/3.4 APO, otherwise, what is the mechanical difference between the lens mount of the APO and the 135 Tele-Elmar lens?

I just got a Tele-Elmar 135/4 and tried to code it today.

 

I was gonna code it as the APO-Telyt-M 135mm f/3.4 which the code is 110101

 

But for the last three digit there is a screw on the mount, so it will be recognized as R-Adapter-M, which is 110111. So I turned to code it as Macro-Elmar-M 90mm f/4 which is 100111 (because of the screw, the last three digit wills always be recognized as 111), and then as I turn my M240 on, it shows 4/135!! and in EXIF it's now Tele-Elmar 4/135:eek:

 

I just accidentally coded it right :D

I am very glad to confirm what ray3210 says.

My Tele-Elmar 135/4 works well on a M240 with the code 100111, simply performed with six drillings of 1.9mm diameter and 0.6mm depth at the appropriate region and filled them with Revell #8 (matte black, for '1') and Revell #301 (matte white, for '0').

Unnessesary to tell that 4/135 is shown on display and Tele-Elmar 4/135 in EXIF...

Has anyone got a similar trick to perform a code for the Cron 35/2 Type II ?

What's all this talk about 28/90 flange in regard to the 135/4 and 135/3.4? I had the 135/3.4 APO and it always brought up the 35/135 framelines, as does my 135/4. What possible reason would either of those lenses want a 28/90 flange? The only 135 I know of that uses a 28/90 flange is the f/2.8 Elmarit, because of the goggle magnification.
